After Ondoy, and some pimpage.

Right, so. Yesterday was the first regular school day after the shitstorm that was Ondoy.

The atmosphere was rather... well. It wasn't great, but it wasn't entirely terrible. Still, it's rather haunting, going around and hearing people talk about nothing else but what happened, or occasionally spotting someone crying on someone else's shoulder. My students, for the most part, are okay - we talked long and much about exactly how the tragedy could have reached critical mass the way it did, along with a more regular concern: grades.

I've just spent most of my day checking all of their remaining requirements and computing for their class standing - it doesn't look like I'll be failing anyone this semester, and overall, everyone did stellar in my classes. Tomorrow will involve some negotiations on the parts of a few of my students, and I'll probably let them have their desired grade bumps if they can argue with me well enough.

On the grad studies end of things, I've still got a paper to write. Felt shitty over the past few weeks, so I really haven't been able to do it. Thankfully, I returned to my calm and happy place by rolling around and fixing all (yes, all) of my backlogged files and changing my icon sets, so I think I'm recharged enough to give it a shot. Tonight, perhaps.

Now let's talk internet things.

First off: HI AND HELLO TO THE NEW FOLKS THAT [livejournal.com profile] jusrecht INTRODUCED ME TO! ♥

Aaaand pimp outs.

NEW POST UP ON ORZISMS: Contextualizing Manga the Right Way (And Then Some)

Katekyo Hitman Reborn: Come up through the summer rain (requested by [livejournal.com profile] botling ♥)
Devil Summoner: Solemn talk of distant rain (requested by [livejournal.com profile] botling ♥)

I've actually finished a host of other prompts from the ones people requested from me sometime back, but I won't be posting them up just yet.

Funi funi funi funicuLAAAAAA~~~~

Well, I've learned one thing this week:

Attempting to write a little every day, while plausible, does not exactly deliver results. ~_~

On another note, Sango burgers and portabello mushroom spread are on their own unique, unparalleled levels of amazing. I have [livejournal.com profile] kye_kestrel to thank for suggesting that she, [livejournal.com profile] yukitsu and I go out to Rockwell yesterday, since I didn't have class. [livejournal.com profile] khursten followed us later, which was really cool as well. I realize that I truly live for weekends like this one.

Orzisms post: on Katekyo Hitman Reborn, the one ex-boyfriend who wasn't an asshole

This link has done the rounds on part of the interwebs already, since [livejournal.com profile] jusrecht was kind enough to take time out to read it and even went so far as to linking it on her flist. It's basically my look at the series as it is now, and why I appear to be falling out of it.

Still ficcing, though, if only to finish Return on Investment and my new pet project, Fiore di Nuvola (refer to minibang!). Flaws aside, I've always been attracted to KHR because of its potential, and writing this perceived potential out in my own way, through fanfic, is always the best way to express that.

On more blog-related news: I set Thursday aside to fuss over the thing, so I have posts scheduled to go up every week from here until October. Will pimp the links out on this journal, whenever I happen to remember to do so.

Finished Suikoden Tierkreis: I blame that on [livejournal.com profile] dreamlessness, who started the game sometime after me but finished first, thus kicking me into action out of guilt.

Yes [livejournal.com profile] factorielle, I will attempt to write BUT I CANNOT GUARANTEE QUALITY. /sob

Now starting on The World Ends With You, like the slowpoke I am. Terrible game, I tell you - brings out all the obsessive-compulsive tendencies in a player like myself.

Contemplating another friends' cut. With the exception of the people that I meet regularly or poke a lot online, I find that the internet's becoming rather toxic for me again.

Baby steps towards raging against the dying of the light. [Return on Investment Chapters 8-11]

A conversation with [livejournal.com profile] yukitsu the other night had me attempting something that I've never done before: block out a whole day to do nothing but fuss over my writing.

To make a long story short, it worked.

KATEKYO HITMAN REBORN!: Return on Investment

Chapter Eight: New ways, old things.
Theme Song: Download link to follow!
Rating: G
Characters: Tsuna, Chrome, Basil, I-Pin, Lambo, Luce, Gamma, Shouichi, with brief appearances and mentions of others
Summary: Tsuna dreams in the car, Luce cleans her office, and occasionally, we see bits and pieces of the past.
Notes: This longfic was my NaNoWriMo project for 2008, although I've actually been itching to write it ever since I returned to the fandom early on this year. It's meant to take place ten years into the new future created by Tsuna and his crew after the TYL arc, and is pretty much very AU now, given how the manga has ended up progressing (point of departure from the canon is around Chapter 215, although I've tried to incorporate bits and pieces from the chapters after that). The title of this chapter is taken from the [livejournal.com profile] 31_days theme for July 4, 2008.

4,916 words.

Chapter Nine: No place like home.
Theme Song: Download link to follow!
Rating: PG-13, for shower hanky panky nudity
Characters: Kyoko, Haru, Hana, Ryohei, Yamamoto, Hibari, Reborn x Bianchi, with mentions of others
Summary: The Road Trippers finally reach their destination, and Reborn, after a good morning call from Bianchi, goes off to see one of his stupid students.
Notes: The title of this chapter is taken from the [livejournal.com profile] 31_days theme for October 11, 2008.

4,560 words.

Chapter Ten: Raison d’etre.
Theme Song: Download link to follow!
Rating: R, for interhouse mansexxing an implied sexual encounter
Characters: Dino x Hibari, Gokudera, Tsuna, Kyoko, Basil, Chrome, Yamamoto and Reborn, with mentions of others
Summary: Hibari in Venice, two hours late for an engagement. Gokudera, on assignment. Tsuna, heading home. Yamamoto and Reborn, at a bar, with drinks.
Notes: The title of this chapter is taken from the [livejournal.com profile] 31_days theme for August 14, 2008.

4,440 words.

Chapter Eleven: Somewhere just left of nowhere.
Theme Song: Download link to follow!
Rating: NC-17, for graphic sex
Characters: Dino x Hibari
Summary: Ten years in the past at Namimori / Ten years into the future at Venice.
Notes: The title of this chapter is taken from the [livejournal.com profile] 31_days theme for August 7, 2008.

3,663 words.

Feels like centuries since I last posted Return on Investment stuff, huh? orz

Also: ridiculously happy about how Fiore di Nuvola has been received so far. Was honestly afraid that no one would read it because of the premise, but the folks who have were fabulous with their feedback.

For this next week, I'm thinking of trying to write just a little bit each day rather than take a whole day out for it. We'll see which one works out for me better. ♥
izkariote: (writer at work.)
2009-09-05 09:41 pm

More drive-by pimpage~!

I-idk if I should pimp this at the main comm. Should I? orz

Title: beLIEve.
Pairing/Characters: Byakuran & Hibari, with appearances by a few of the others
Rating: R
Summary: Alternate universe fic, exploring the possibility of what life might have been like for Hibari Kyouya, if Byakuran had found him first.
Notes: This one was written for Round Two of the KHR Minibang~! You can read all of the other works over at this link.

5,701 words. [fake cut to the Dreamwidth entry]

EVERYBODY GO READ THE OTHER MINIBANG ENTRIES TOO!
izkariote: (productivity.)

Shuffling back in.

The writing of this entry was massively delayed because of Suikoden Tierkreis.

No, I do not have a DS - [livejournal.com profile] khursten lent me hers, with encouragement from [livejournal.com profile] yukitsu, because the both of them are delightfully evil.

My PSP is with Khursten now. orz

Cold aside, this week was pretty glorious because two vacations that consequently landed on the only remaining work days that I had pretty much left me with a four-day weekend. Used Tuesday and Wednesday up for tackling my backlog (which I managed to finish), and rolled around on Thursday. Met with the girls on Friday, which felt strangely like Saturday because lmao, long weekend is long.

Friday was also the day that I took home Khursten's DS, and it ate me alive. It's... still chewing on my arm. ._.

Saturday class was lulzy because we tackled Formalism and Reader Response Theory. Had a lot to contribute to both while I was tackling the gazillion tags I got from all of my RP accounts. I'm getting better at juggling all this stuff, but also realizing that I may definitely have to cut down on my activities and RPs soon. There are so many other things that I ought to be or would rather be doing with my time now.

Title: Insanity is hereditary.
Characters/Pairing(s): Tsuyoshi, Iemitsu, Shamal, mentions of others
Rating: G
Summary: On the eve of a fight for succession, some not-so-tired old men get together for a good drink.
Warnings? Manry bonding, and alcohol.
Notes: Originally written for [livejournal.com profile] khr_undercover. I wrote for the theme, "Origins", and I actually won, which is pretty cool. o_o The title is taken from a theme found in one of the [livejournal.com profile] 31_days sets!

1,495 words.

...There is a funny story behind this one. See, I joined khr_uc not knowing that it was actually a contest, and since I was srsly busy, I forgot to join the community and keep track of the updates. So, when I finally found out that the results were up and I saw my name on the post as one of the winners for the theme competition, I was like "whut". XD;

Still, it was challenging and very fun. I'm considering joining the third round, but with my hit record with writing, it's probably better if I didn't.

Deadline for the minibang is coming up by the end of this month. I've checked my entry over for the umpteenth time, and I figure that I can get by on minimal editing. The thing, as a whole, looks perfectly fine on its own.

Been tripping out massively on movies lately, and that sort of made me realize something about my writerly cycle that I'll probably blog about sometime.

I should also blog about my stand on KHR!, since I've been gabbing off to a select few people ever since the first chapter for this month came out.

For the moment, though, I'll pimp out the entry on Nine Inch Nails that I made sometime back, since a couple of you guys were asking.

Nine Inch Nails and How I Owe Them Just Short of Everything

May open myself up for prompts. Possibly when my brain stops dribbling out of my nose.

Cruising along~ ♪

Quick pimp-outs before updates!

+ Fanfic for [livejournal.com profile] fushimiru, [livejournal.com profile] theskytides RPG; Raidou and Naoto, "When are you going to love you as much as I do?"
+ Fanfic, Metal Gear Solid 3; Big Boss, "Slowly twisting the lilac stalks"
+ Fanmix, KHR!, for [livejournal.com profile] desumethis; Xanxus & Squalo - Married, with Domestic Violence!

It's good to be mixing again, and even better to be writing again. Currently working on a *cough* surprise KHR! fic, and it's going well. I just might make the deadline without problems.

As some of you already know, I went out with my folks to the Canadian Embassy. Passport renewal is death serious business, so serious, in fact, that it entailed being stuck on the road for nearly two hours (CURSE YOU, WEATHER!) and another hour-long wait because the dudes ahead took forever and a day.

Was supposed to go and see [livejournal.com profile] khursten (and later meet up with the Koushien for dinner along Tomas Morato), but we had to take a rain check because lol, well. Rain. Anyway, ended up tagging along with my folks the whole day - first to Glorietta (mom wanted to get her watches fixed at the service center), then to Megamall (dad wanted to canvas the prices of shotguns at the gun convention).

In spite of the fact that I've only pretty much just gotten home, it was rather nice, spending time with the folks. One funny thing that happened today was my dad attempting to read what I was working on over my shoulder. I... sort of panicked because I was doing gay porn. Um. Yeah. /)_(\

Oh, I also saw [livejournal.com profile] yukitsu for a bit! We finally got our gelato! ♥

Because of all the waiting time I had today, I got to finish Misha McGlenny's McMafia, after nearly a year of picking it up and putting it down. It's a fascinating read exploring the relationship between organized crime and globalization, and I strongly recommend it to whoever's into those topics.

With that done, I can go on to crawling through the other selections on my book shelf, and the book that [livejournal.com profile] lonelybusiness lent me a long, long, LONG time ago. *sob* RL keeps me pretty much too busy to really go through books unless I'm in transition or transport, since I'm usually occupied with so many other things when I'm actually free.

This has to change, though. Gotta make reading for leisure a much more regular habit, the way it used to be.

Funky animu again this season. Bakemonogatari and Tokyo Magnitude 8 look exceptionally well-done, for one.

The plan was to eat at Saisaki for free, but we were cockblocked because everything was trufax expensive. THAT IS OKAY THOUGH BECAUSE THE CURRY PLACE WE WENT TO WAS AMAZING. ♥

The whole Koushien + Adzhu celebrated Yukeh's birthday the next day - we zipped over to the MoA area, where Yukeh treated us all out to the dampa.

I don't think I'll be able to eat seafood the same way ever again. T^Tm

[livejournal.com profile] khursten and [livejournal.com profile] yukitsu were over the whole day yesterday, and it was glorious~ we got a lot of plotting done for [livejournal.com profile] theskytides, and we watched part of the pilot episode of Battlestar Galactica. Ahn~ nostalgia~~~~

Anyway, we've sent in all the relevant apps and revisions. Now we're just waiting for word from the mods.

Slept hella late and ended up waking up at 11 AM - joined the Porn Off Night at a poke from [livejournal.com profile] botling and met a whole lot of lovely new people. Was brain dead throughout most of it, though, because the heat was fucking horrible.

It's cooler now, and I'm just pounding out fic things and reading manga until I get lazy enough to go to bed.

/rolls forever and ever and--

I've spent the last two days waking up early and puttering off to the office to use the fapworthy connection down there - I'm finally at home since Dad's not going to the office anyway, and it'll look weird if the daughter of the CEO is there while the CEO's nowhere to be found. o_o So, lolworthynet for me today~

I know I ought to fix the connection that we have down here at the house, but with Holy Week just around the corner, it's probably going to be pointless to call. I'll bug them to death after the festivities die down.

Anyway, in between net-mooching timez and tagging, I've been making good time with that backlog, both on the level of watching AND downloading. All the seasons of everything I've been following have been pretty cool, with the exception of The L Word. I just have one thing to say about that show:

Thank God it's over.

To balance out THAT fail, I've finally started on Gintama. Watching it now makes me wonder why I didn't bother starting it sooner.

Just got three fics to quickpimp. I've set a daily quota for myself: at least 1,000 words of anything every day until school kicks in. In as much as I'd like to complete my big projects, I also want to enjoy my break. We'll just see how that goes.

MINI FIC DUMP!

+ Katekyo Hitman Reborn!, Gokudera Hayato & Sawada Tsunayoshi: A waking dream (for [livejournal.com profile] theprereogative)

To kick things off, have a conversation I took from plurk:

[livejournal.com profile] izkariote: TIS MY BRAIN IN A BOWL.
[livejournal.com profile] izkariote: BEHOLD.
[livejournal.com profile] izkariote: IT IS MUSHY.
[livejournal.com profile] factorielle: ...You worry me.

--Because that pretty much sums up how last week was for me. Spent most of my time ficcing and attending to some faculty things, but mostly ficcing because March is the month of GAR and fic-dumping, since several of my good friends celebrate their birthdays this time around and like hell I'm going to let them go without getting a gift from me, even if it's fail.

This also means that I ought to kick myself into shape again and pound out the long overdue fics that I owe other people who celebrated their birthdays while I was busy. I'll be free very soon, so it shouldn't be a problem.

ANYWAY SO. This weekend was pretty insane~ [livejournal.com profile] khursten, [livejournal.com profile] yukitsu and I met with Tricia, who is this uber cool Pinay doing research on the local yaoi community for her scholarship grant in Osaka. It was a night of Lights Out Talk and wonderful conversation AND OMFG D18 DOUJIN BECAUSE SHE IS AWESOME AND MANAGED TO SECURE THREE BEAUTIFUL TITLES FOR ME ASDLKGHK;AHSDGH;ASHDKLGH;LAHSDLKH;GHASDHG-- *brainsplode*

Um. Anyway. Yeah. Bottom line is, she's a great person, aaaaand I have more Peeco and Banyuu in my collection. |D

Attended class on Saturday before meeting up with [livejournal.com profile] khursten again, for her birthday celebration - [livejournal.com profile] yukitsu was with her, and we zipped over to Binondo for food tripping with [livejournal.com profile] kye_kestrel, [livejournal.com profile] ficcentricity [livejournal.com profile] yue_dermond and [livejournal.com profile] 77ws. We went over to her house after we finished up, where I watched some Gintama, broke Lynffles' brain with one of my critical readings, oggled my doujinshi yet again and rolled around until around two in the morning.

Was supposed to get home in time to celebrate Mass with my dad, since it's his birthday today, but I didn't make it - thankfully, my parents were okay with it. I just have to make sure not to do it again. Am upstairs now and finally done with most of my internet backlog.

Doctor's appointment tomorrow and on Tuesday. Beyond that, I've got to finish birthday fics for [livejournal.com profile] theprerogative and [livejournal.com profile] botling and teacherly things for my children. Might chill out a little longer, though, since I'm still kinda "bwuh" after being out for pretty much the whole weekend.

On other awesomeness, I was accepted into Amat. This makes me ridiculously happy, but also terribly worried. o_o

Moving on!

I really meant to post sooner, but some little earthquakes on the personal front and a hell lot of work-related things kept me away from doing much of anything beyond dealing. I don't really feel the need to talk about the shistorms (those who need to know already do, and the rest of you really don't have to), so let's just go straight to what I've been up to.

Taboan 2009 looked like it was a huge success, from what little I got to see of it... Ateneo hosted the second day of the festival, as part of the merrymaking for the university's 150th year in service. I was pretty much all over the place because of the things they assigned me to do (logistics, ushering, tech support and documentation) but overall, I had a really great time. I also know how to use a video cam properly because of the exercise, so, if for anything, I learned something new?

I'd talk more about the ideas that were tossed back and forth during the conference panels themselves, but any of the epiphanies I had are pretty much out of my head right now. orz Crunch time, yo.

Crashed on Friday, so I pretty much huddled up alone at home and did random internet things beyond study for my class. Saturday was lovely - the group assigned to report on the readings were excellent. [livejournal.com profile] yukitsu met up with me after class and helped me check papers. Everything that needed to be graded HAS been graded now as a result. ♥ Had dinner out, met with [livejournal.com profile] anothermiyaw after, and generally had a wonderful Saturday.

Today has been extra productive as well - I finished three response papers out of the five that I intend to submit and the readings that I will be reporting on this coming Saturday. It's the lit conference for the senior lit majors in ADMU, and I'll be moderating the panels - this means that I can generally take it easy for the evening. If I'm still in this productive funk, though, I'll prolly start preparing for that report, or maybe get started on the fourth response paper. o_o

Now, for internet news. I made a musebox for myself over at [livejournal.com profile] yescomrade - if you're a friend, join it. If you're an partner-in-crime in any of my RPs, join it. If you're curious and you feel like tagging with me, join it. I'm willing to swing just about anything. ♥ Also, [livejournal.com profile] botling made [livejournal.com profile] pavlovsyaoi, which is the musebox that we share... it currently features our alternate universe in KHR where Hibari was found by Byakuran first. SHOW US YOUR LOVE AND WATCH US FLAIL.

Ignore the rest of this post. It's all shameless pimpage.

Serious Business
Publishing is Srs Bzns
Premise
There's something very, very odd about the publishing industry down in Japan, and, in particular, a rather influential city named Namimori - everyone who's dipped their foot into that particular pond would know. At this moment, there are three major companies of interest locked in this game: Vongola & Associates, Millefiore & Company and the Varia.

The recent economic crisis have forced the heads of these respective companies to do an almost total restructure, with mass promotions, lay-offs (or hiring, depending on who you are) and other scary things to note. Overall, they're all slightly bigger, slightly better organized, and more than ready to play.

Publishing may be a game, but it's a damned serious one, with the fate of good reading and the people who seek to churn it out to the masses at stake.

Welcome to our world, ladies and gentlemen.

Yes.

It's fucking serious business.

Drive by stuff

Thanks to everyone who read through the emo and poked me with a hug, an encouraging word and whatever else. I'm really, really grateful to all of you. For serious. ♥

--Now, let me rape your minds with badfic.

[livejournal.com profile] kasugai_gummie, BELATED HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Please don't kill me!

Title: Intervention
Characters/Pairing(s): Rokudo Mukuro (69), Hibari Kyouya (18), Sawada Tsunayoshi (27)
Rating: PG FOR PEDO-GAY!
Summary: Tsuna comes home from a mission. Mukuro and Hibari are waiting for him. Strangeness ensues.
Notes: The title is taken from the [livejournal.com profile] 31_days theme for October 29, 2008. Written for [livejournal.com profile] kasugai_gummie, because I owe her a birthday fic and I pray that this one doesn't such too much!

ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE. )

Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] desumethis, my saprize homey, for the link!

All of you must do it. FOR GREAT JUSTICE.

Chilled out yesterday until [livejournal.com profile] khursten, [livejournal.com profile] yukitsu and [livejournal.com profile] ficcentricity came around to drag me out on a massive commuting road trip thing to Makati for Takoyaki Night, which was glorious. ♥ Slept hell of late because everyone is crazy on my side of the internet, and woke up in order to cram a SAPRIZE READING! for class before zooming off to school.

Today has been pretty nice - quiet, uneventful, and generally nice. This week is looking busy, with the Writer's Festival coming up on Thursday and work to do both for the classes I teach and the classes I attend. RP is becoming a welcome retreat from all the real life suckage, although part of me feels bad about not committing nearly as much time to it as I would have hoped.

Summer is near, though. There is that.

On other news: [livejournal.com profile] botling, you are evil. [livejournal.com profile] eriea, you are as well. You know what I mean. B|

Thursday rambling, fic included.

Was dragged out of bed early for the usual blood test, although it wasn't AS usual as the others since they drew a lot more blood than usual. orz My arm still hurts. ;A;

Overall, though, the day was lovely and productive! Zipped off to the dermatologist to pick up skin meds and get some more pimples zapped, then I went straight to Ateneo to do a little writing before my meet with the lit committee - we've got a big presentation coming up tomorrow, so all of us wanted to run through the material before the firing squad actual thing.

...I also got to watch BSG S4E12, which srsly made me hate humanity (or at least, some of the characters in the show, who serve as reflections for all the stupid sonnuvabitches in the world) for a bit. This series, it is awesome. It makes you question everything.

Got picked up by Peter after the meeting was finished~ picked up cigarettes for [livejournal.com profile] khursten and [livejournal.com profile] 77ws, then got myself dropped off at U.P. where I met up with [livejournal.com profile] yukitsu, [livejournal.com profile] ficcentricity and [livejournal.com profile] factorielle. Was introduced to the lovely [livejournal.com profile] mushroom18, whom I've just friended back. YAY FOR NEW NAKAMA. \o/

Dragged the koushien home with me after we said our goodbyes to [livejournal.com profile] mushroom18, where [livejournal.com profile] factorielle rolled around in bed for a bit and she and the other two thoroughly enjoyed themselves with the bubble wrap that [livejournal.com profile] g3sh0kku used to store her Christmas gift to me in. ...I guess that's your signal to send in more next time, 69 love. ♥ Anyway, after that craziness came craziness at the dinner table before I saw them off.

I'm chilling out now since I've finished packing - I'll have a pretty full day tomorrow with classes to teach and that big faculty meeting, but I plan on going home during my long break to cool my heels off and make last-minute arrangements. BATANGAS, GET.

Am seriously lagging with fic requests and my own personal quota for editing and writing stuff, and I can blame it on nothing else but me being oddly tired these days. I'm practically narcoleptic in the car, for one... s'like, I drop off to sleep every time I'm idle. *fail*

Here's a semi-peace offering, though. [livejournal.com profile] anothermiyaw celebrated her birthday recently, so this is my long overdue gift to her which is totally small and insignificant compared to the really pretty one [livejournal.com profile] kye_kestrel wrote for her!.

Title: Be sweet, be false.
Series: Katekyo Hitman Reborn!
Characters/Pairing(s): Gamma, Uni Giglionero
Rating: G
Summary: A conversation out in the sunlight.
Notes: Set in the distant future, the one Tsuna and the gang recreated after they came back to their time. Uni must be around twenty or so in this fic. The title is taken from the [livejournal.com profile] 31_days theme for August 23, 2007, and I do solemnly swear that this is my fail!attempt at doing their pairing yet again.

540 words.

Now I just need to get fics out for [livejournal.com profile] kasugai_gummie and [livejournal.com profile] mienai_hoshi. @_@

FREEDOM, I CAN HAS IT.

This entry is LONG OVERDUE, but I've spent the last few days drowning in paperwork -- this was something that I did on purpose, as I wanted to make sure that I did all my teacherly stuff before the actual break. That way, I'd be free to party slack off be productive in other, less academic areas of my life throughout the Christmas season. I CAN HAPPILY COLLAPSE IN A CORNER SOMEWHERE NOW THAT EVERYTHING IS DONE! \o/

Srsly, though, this Responsible Adult thing? Sometimes I want to kick myself in the head for it. I might work myself straight to the coffin at this rate. Somebody needs to tell me when to slow down. *fail*

[livejournal.com profile] kye_kestrel had her birthday celebration last Saturday over at Powerplant; [livejournal.com profile] anothermiyaw hitched a ride with me from Katipunan, after my Texts and Textuality Class. Traffic was bad, so we kinda ended up shooting the breeze for the good hour that we spent swimming through a sea of cars. Met up with the boss and [livejournal.com profile] yukitsu once we got there: everyone else - [livejournal.com profile] khrusten, [livejournal.com profile] 77ws, [livejournal.com profile] ficcentricity and [livejournal.com profile] lonelybusiness who is fail because she thought we were meeting up in Glorietta - arrived later. Cue dinner shenanigans. Cue crazy gifts. KRISTEL, UNDERSTAND THE CHAOS YOU BROUGHT DOWN UPON ALL OF US WITH THOSE GIFTS. B|

Spent the next few days after that Drowning in Papers whenever I was home and doing school shenanigans whenever I was in Ateneo. Finally managed to finish up everything sometime last night, and today was light and easy. Had my first Christmas party with the English Department. That was pretty much an awesome way to kick off my break. ♥

Goals That Will Probably Not Be Met For Christmas Break 2008:
* Work on my pitch to Image Comics. I'm planning on pitching Endtimes. *crosses fingers*
* BOND WITH MY PS2. ASDK;LHG;LAHSDGHADSG TOO MANY PEOPLE POSTING ABOUT PERSONA 4.
* BOND WITH MY PSP. I'VE ONLY BEEN USING IT FOR MUSIC. orz
* Catch up with my backlogged anime, manga, movies and TV series. The list keeps growing, whut.
* Catch up with all the books I've bought but haven't even really cracked open.
* Sort all those images. I HAD A GOOD START.
* Fix my game plan for the rest of the semester with my kids.
* Write more Return on Investment after I've finished all my Christmas gift fics.

Now that I've mentioned it, I should be posting some of the gift fics that I managed to finish before work came rolling in. In the meantime, I'm pimping out the fics that I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] kye_kestrel - I did my usual ## number of drabbles = to celebrant's age thing for her~

+ FULL METAL ALCHEMIST, TENGEN TOPPA GURREN-LAGANN, ODIN SPHERE, KINGDOM HEARTS, SOUL EATER (click here!)
+ PERSONA 3: Ryoji/Minato, Shinji/Aki, Junpei/Aki & XXXHOLiC: Doumeki & Watanuki (click here!)
+ D.GRAYMAN: OT3, Cross, Rabi/Kanda & DARKER THAN BLACK: Gen Fics (click here!)
+ KATEKYO HITMAN REBORN!: 1827, 5927, Spa27/Spa51 & OOKIKU FURIKABUTTE: IzuMizu, AbeMiha (click here!)
+ KATEKYO HITMAN REBORN!: Shouichi Crack, 6927, 8059, 801859 (click here!)

My thirteenth month pay thingie came in last week, and Mom just put it on time deposit - this means a huge rate of return in terms of interest every month. This suddenly makes some plans that I had for 2009 very feasible, so I've decided to go for a major Poverty Plan to make sure that I achieve them at the projected dates.

Here's hoping that I make it.

Reallyfuckingquickentry.

Was up and rolling around in bed by 5:30 AM today. WTF BODY CLOCK. Also: WTF BRAIN, YOU'RE WIDE AWAKE. O_O

Late meeting at the Eng Dept later that sounded redundant. Won't be going with [livejournal.com profile] anothermiyaw and [livejournal.com profile] yukitsu to that, um, event. Iyeah.

ANYWAY, NOW FOR MY REAL REASON FOR POSTING. Finally managed to archive all of the fics I wrote for the Reborn Drabble Meme that kicked around at [livejournal.com profile] caelestin's LJ for a bit. Links below:

+ --> genfic: D, 27, 59, Romario
+ --> pairing: 1896
+ --> pairing: 6918, 10069, 2759
+ --> genfic: Kokuyo
+ --> genfic: Spanner, Shouichi, Gamma, Genkishi, 59, 18
+ --> pairing: 8018, ColoLal, 8059, 6927, Spa27
+ --> fic set: the Varia
+ --> pairing: D18

Although some of them are staple pairings or characters for me, most of this stuff are first-time attempts to writing the pairings or characters in question. It doesn't look like I failed TOO badly, but well. |D

Christmas Ficcage, RL stuff and general laziness!

All of these long weekends are going to make me so lazy. The fact that Christmas vacation is right around the corner doesn't really help either, I think. |D

So! What was I up to this weekend... stayed on campus til late on Friday for a meeting, hopped around with [livejournal.com profile] yukitsu in Shangrila after class on Saturday, then spent the whole day with her, [livejournal.com profile] kye_kestrel, [livejournal.com profile] khursten, [livejournal.com profile] synatri (THE MYTHICAL CREATURE IN OUR PARTY!), [livejournal.com profile] ficcentricity, [livejournal.com profile] anothermiyaw, [livejournal.com profile] lonelybusiness and [livejournal.com profile] 77ws. We ate at Emerald (DELISHUS HUEG CRABS ARE DELISHUS AND HUEG!), then zipped over to Greenhills to buy Kat's DS and generally to stupid and fun things together. Came home really late, but the folks didn't seem to mind. [livejournal.com profile] khursten, bb, thank you so much for taking me home! ♥

Have deferred Serious Business and modly duties for a bit in order to get cranking on my 25-drabble birthday gift for [livejournal.com profile] kye_kestrel, the drabbles I owe [livejournal.com profile] psychoshoujo for her birthday way back when, and all the other Christmas drabbles that people have requested so far. If you still haven't requested, go here and poke me with watcha want!

I HAVE, however, completed some of the Christmas gifts already. Here's a list of the ones I've posted so far:

+ KHR, SB!6918 (for [livejournal.com profile] a_lighter_side)
+ Oofuri, semi-Chiyo/Rio (for [livejournal.com profile] m_moneypenny)
+ Lucifer + Sandman, Lucifer pr0n & Mazikeen introspection (for [livejournal.com profile] lethologica)
+ KHR, 5927 fluff (for [livejournal.com profile] kye_kestrel)

Will be pimping them as I finish them, but expect a master list up on Christmas Day OR whenever I finish the whole set.

~~~~ /o/ *goes back to writing! Extremely!*
NaNoWriMo Official Status Report Number Seven
...The first of three 8018-centric installments. I'm kind of cheating here (I'm only supposed to post excerpts, but with this and the other ones to follow I'll be doing full but unedited chapters), but with the way the scenes are written, it's hard to follow what's happening without reading, um, everything.
[/TL;DR]
47891 / 125000 words. 38% done!
Adjusted my word count to fit the actual size of the project at hand! Writing will slow down immensely after November, though, since I kinda have to get back to living the rest of my life in tandem with the ficcing. :'D
OKAY SO, SOME QUICK POINTS FOR THE DAY:
  • Winged both my En11 classes. orz Still out of it from yesterday and Wednesday.
  • Met with [livejournal.com profile] gzep, [livejournal.com profile] psychoshoujo, [livejournal.com profile] laurgasm and Ren. [livejournal.com profile] anothermiyaw, you were missed. >: Y DID U FORGET ABOUT US.
  • Dragged the whole crowd (except for Ren, since he had stuff to do) over to ADMU. Showed my little robots off, went to the smoket, chilled out, resigned myself to having no plan for my Fiction class--
  • --and apparently ended up lecturing for said lit class really well. o_o Um. Wao, self. Good job.
Texts and Textuality class tomorrow -- I just picked up the reader for the whole semester. It's... three inches thick. And staring at me in the face right now. *crai*
On KHR! 219: 1827 MUSE IS GNAWING AT MY ARM AND Y SO DORKY SHOUSHOU AND DLKHGL;HSD;HGAHDS VARIA.
And now, the real reason for this post:
The Christmas Meme. )
I-I know I must've promised some people here and there on their own wish lists, so poke me if I have? In case I've forgotten. o_o
AND.
ONCE AGAIN.
Since I can't buy you nothing, request a fic!
Entry is f-locked, but, um. Yeah. :|
--People with multiple LJ accounts are not allowed to request twice/thrice/infinite times. [livejournal.com profile] yukitsu, [livejournal.com profile] khursten, [livejournal.com profile] anothermiyaw, I'm watching you guys. B|
OH NO, THEY DIDN'T--
I'm supposed to have a nice, hopefully entertaining post regarding RL stuff here, but that can wait. See, on most days, fandom stupidity doesn't do much of anything to me beyond making me want to point and laugh, and, barring that, make a semi-snarky post about it on Plurk. This one, however, is a special case.
Fandom rant, AHOY! Srsly, what is with some people bringing their close-minded views into their reading of a series?
...Not this argument again. )
The lessons at the end of the day is breathtakingly simple, kids:
Don't force your cultural ideals down another country's throat. Heck, on a smaller scale, don't force it down another person's FANDOM. Find a point of intersection between where you're coming from and where the work's coming from. Trust me: the results are bound to fun and interesting.
Read more, and please, read CAREFULLY before you judge anything. It's one thing to sound smart. It's quite another to BE smart.
I have heard from a few reliable sources that the person who made the post that I just deconstructed is a pretty good fanfic writer. I haven't read her fiction, but I'll have to say that now, I really don't want to. If she brings this narrow-mindedness into her craft, then I sure as hell don't want to touch any of that with a foot-long pole. It's probably as pretentious and as misguided as her fanfics are. The fact that I'm VERY SENSITIVE to authorial tone probably isn't going to help either.
Am I being unfair? I don't think so. You really, honestly can't separate one's fiction from the rest of what they are as a person, especially when it comes to matters of taste and intellect. You know what they say about empty cans and coins. Having such a close-minded approach stunts your growth as a writer.
Of course, that's just MY opinion of things.
EDIT: [livejournal.com profile] khursten has posted her own take on the matter over here. Go read it?
EDIT #2: Okay, so now that people are popping up and certain personal attacks ARE being made of which I do not have any control of, I'm disabling further comments. I'm doing this because there are people in my circle who are becoming uncomfortable with the sort of exchanges going on here, and I want to stimmy the damage, if only for their sake. I am not, however, going to lock this entry. I believe that vitriol aside, my position is clear and is well-informed from another viewpoint on the issue. As such, it deserves to be read.
