izkariote: (bringing sexy back.)
( Feb. 15th, 2009 06:24 pm)
I really meant to post sooner, but some little earthquakes on the personal front and a hell lot of work-related things kept me away from doing much of anything beyond dealing. I don't really feel the need to talk about the shistorms (those who need to know already do, and the rest of you really don't have to), so let's just go straight to what I've been up to.

Taboan 2009 looked like it was a huge success, from what little I got to see of it... Ateneo hosted the second day of the festival, as part of the merrymaking for the university's 150th year in service. I was pretty much all over the place because of the things they assigned me to do (logistics, ushering, tech support and documentation) but overall, I had a really great time. I also know how to use a video cam properly because of the exercise, so, if for anything, I learned something new?

I'd talk more about the ideas that were tossed back and forth during the conference panels themselves, but any of the epiphanies I had are pretty much out of my head right now. orz Crunch time, yo.

Crashed on Friday, so I pretty much huddled up alone at home and did random internet things beyond study for my class. Saturday was lovely - the group assigned to report on the readings were excellent. [livejournal.com profile] yukitsu met up with me after class and helped me check papers. Everything that needed to be graded HAS been graded now as a result. ♥ Had dinner out, met with [livejournal.com profile] anothermiyaw after, and generally had a wonderful Saturday.

Today has been extra productive as well - I finished three response papers out of the five that I intend to submit and the readings that I will be reporting on this coming Saturday. It's the lit conference for the senior lit majors in ADMU, and I'll be moderating the panels - this means that I can generally take it easy for the evening. If I'm still in this productive funk, though, I'll prolly start preparing for that report, or maybe get started on the fourth response paper. o_o

Now, for internet news. I made a musebox for myself over at [livejournal.com profile] yescomrade - if you're a friend, join it. If you're an partner-in-crime in any of my RPs, join it. If you're curious and you feel like tagging with me, join it. I'm willing to swing just about anything. ♥ Also, [livejournal.com profile] botling made [livejournal.com profile] pavlovsyaoi, which is the musebox that we share... it currently features our alternate universe in KHR where Hibari was found by Byakuran first. SHOW US YOUR LOVE AND WATCH US FLAIL.

Ignore the rest of this post. It's all shameless pimpage.

FIC DUMP, GET!

Katekyo Hitman Reborn: Return on Investment (Chapter 6). --> Where Yamamoto and Hibari walk around Palawan and strange stuff happens.

Musebox for the KHR-verse: Kaoko Hibari. Because a violent kid like Kyouya has to have come from somewhere!

Porn-off Night Fics: Darker than Black, Code Geass. My fail. Nuff said.

Serious Business
Publishing is Srs Bzns
Premise
There's something very, very odd about the publishing industry down in Japan, and, in particular, a rather influential city named Namimori - everyone who's dipped their foot into that particular pond would know. At this moment, there are three major companies of interest locked in this game: Vongola & Associates, Millefiore & Company and the Varia.

The recent economic crisis have forced the heads of these respective companies to do an almost total restructure, with mass promotions, lay-offs (or hiring, depending on who you are) and other scary things to note. Overall, they're all slightly bigger, slightly better organized, and more than ready to play.

Publishing may be a game, but it's a damned serious one, with the fate of good reading and the people who seek to churn it out to the masses at stake.

Welcome to our world, ladies and gentlemen.

Yes.

It's fucking serious business.

So here's the lowdown on the teaching thing, as promised... the demo teaching in itself seemed to go okay (class was generally dead, but I managed to get students to recite of their own accord, so~), and apparently the panelists really, really liked me. Panel interview was, uh, interesting, and the talk I had with the department chair after everything wrapped up was enlightening and reassuring at the same time.

I'll know the results within this week, or maybe next week. At this point, it may be safe to say that if I don't get in, it's because there just aren't any openings given the returning faculty members and other factors. Here's hoping, right?

At least I know that I can teach a class. I read the student evaluation sheets, and beyond maybe 2-5 semi-negative ones, the rest sounded like they really liked me. I suppose, if for anything, I can walk away with that.

...Uh, I'd be more in-depth about the actual things that happened, but they're best told in person, so.

I didn't go out last Saturday (surprising, huh?), so I took that opportunity to finish FF7: Crisis Core. Overall, my take on the game is that it wasn't bad at all... fighting system's interesting, graphics are typical Squeenix stellar, and the story, although it has is hitches, singlehandedly retconned and repaired the FF7 canon. I highly recommend all interested parties on my flist to play it if they haven't already. And yes, the ending pretty much sucks for Zack, but he inadvertently saves the Planet by saving Cloud, right? So I guess it works out. Even if he loses all his friends and his girl and his life in the long run. o_o

Once Crisis Core was out of my PSP, I suddenly had a bucketload of freed space. JAD pirated copies apparently curse my machine, so I'll have to wait for my chance to buy an original before I touch that one. I did, however, reload BoF 3 and Harvest Moon unto Kalika!PSP, to be played when I'm up to going back to them. FFT is still sitting around, but I'm so lazy.

I started on Final Fantasy 1 (yes, Final fucking-Fantasy 1, baby~), Valkryie Profile (I don't remember the original version of the game having FMVS! D:) and Tales of Eternia. I'm currently fixated on ToE, but it might be because it's my way of torturing myself over Tales of the Abyss. See, if I go back to ToA, this will be my third time of completely restarting the game. Thank you for getting lost on me, memory card. u_u

...Which reminds me. I have to restart Devil Summoner, don't I? *crai*

On other news, the old school-ness of FF1 compels me to find a way to play Final Fantasy 6. But I guess that won't be happening for a while.

Saturday was Game Day, Sunday was Mother's Day (which is synonymous to Super Family Day, with my out-of-house bros and their wives coming around to hang out with us), and today became Marathoning Tiem Day following my teaching stuff, since the best way to relax after something like that is to completely veg out.

Battlestar Galactica = picking up. Slowly. Maybe. The pace kinda reminds me of Heroes Season 2, so I'm hopeful.

Supernatural = picking up also. I guess.

House M.D. = I see what you did thar, Amber. B|

Code Geass R2 = it's a fucking soap opera. WITH MECHS!

Golgo 13 = Fucking mancake. That girl in the latest ep was such a bint.

Persona ~Trinity Soul~ = A convoluted story is convoluted~

Iyeah, I really suck at giving reviews. u_u IT'S THE SECOND DAY OF THE BLEEDS FOR ME OKEY.

Now I'm going to go and watch other stuff.

CONGRATULATE ME I'VE RE-DISCOVERED HOW TO DO THE FUNKY LINE THING.

*points above* SEE? :DDD

...Anyway. While [livejournal.com profile] themodestotter and I were spazzing about her possibly going to Japan later this year, I casually popped the idea of her swinging over to the Philippines instead, or during her trip. She's being sent to Japan as a part of some sort of Christian mission, and since the Philippines = the most Christian country in effing Asia, it's a possibility. It's either that or I try and fly out to Japan when she's there and pay her a visit, although that's difficult due to moneyz and personal circumstances.

Anyway, here's the best part of our convo:

Otter: Man, that sucks. Is it hard to get out of your country?
Me: Nah, not at all since I'm technically Canadian. *passports win at life* Just, I think I'll be starting my MA around June. That, and I have no money to pay for my own ticket. >_>
Otter: Really? I heard it was hard to get into [the Philippines]. At least, mom is convinced that it is. She keeps going on about how there is some sort of political turmoil and religious fighting between the Catholics and Muslims, and I am skeptical like I usually am about her "information." I keep telling her that I have a few friends that live there and I haven't heard a word about it, but she tells me that you guys aren't allowed to talk about it or something. I DUNNO.

...At that point, I lolled. Hard.

Srsly, fellow Pinoys, since when did our country become North Korea? XDD

I guess they're not kidding when they say that the US media really does try to build up this culture of fear and suspicion where they are. What's even funnier is that some people actually believe it.

[livejournal.com profile] themodestotter, I ♥ you.

Imma off to the doctor later today.

Don't worry, guys. It's not the annoying one.

Also, I'm being dragged back to the office. Apparently, my aunt is looking for me.

...I want a longer vacation. T_T

On a final note, Here's some more fic dumpage over at [livejournal.com profile] stitchedophelia. :o

2008 Writing Meme requests (2 Persona 3 pieces, one D.Grayman and one Code Geass) for [livejournal.com profile] sindapa.
Persona 3 fic dumpage.
Katekyo Hitman Reborn fic dumpage. One of them is porny, and another one is just gay.
FFT flash fiction.

With all of that, I think I've managed to bleed the fangirl out of my system. ...Sort of.
Oofuri marathon with [livejournal.com profile] yukitsu + karaoke with [livejournal.com profile] kitsune_jade and [livejournal.com profile] khursten tomorrow! Tis the best way to spend one's weekend, I think. X3

Now to bring out the real reason why some of you are reading this post. @_@

Apologies to those of you who have been asking me about the lit conference. I should find out whether I really WILL be presenting on the 20th or not by today. :o
...See, I know I should get a Multiply account now that I've taken to abusing Abel!Phone's camera, but getting one means maintaining yet another webpage. Besides, I think I suck at taking photos, and all of them are from a camera phone anyway. =_= Anyway.

ZE GLORIOUS LJ CUTTAGE! )

And tomorrow, it's a commuting trip to Laguna, all for the love of [livejournal.com profile] ravyn_ashling.

Yes, yes. Drabbles, I know. *pushes [livejournal.com profile] yukitsu and [livejournal.com profile] archangel_dream down*

Btw, Code Geass 23 had its moments. Lelouch was, for one and as usual, the sole redeeming factor the whole episode. At least the Token Pink-haired Girl(tm) is finally dead.
