Holy crap on a stick, this is what happens when I take the equivalent of 18 units of work between graduate studies and teaching.

I'm learning so much, but I am also definitely dying. And failing to check LJ or update. Again. +_+

(I actually hit the limit of entries I can scroll back to on my flist. Sob, what the hell did I miss?!)

Quick points, though: I did participate in NaNoWriMo this year, and completed it ahead of schedule. I normally post with a lot more fanfare, but I just couldn't get myself to do regular updates this time, even if I kept promising myself that I would...

Sort of resolved to do a regular word count every month from now, but I haven't been able to fulfill that promise just yet out of sheer Busy and Tired. I plan on gunning as soon as I've got a moment to myself. Whenever that will happen, anyway.

My brother who's based in Toronto also turned up like, three weeks ago with his family: none of us were expecting him to visit so soon, including him. His wife's aunt had died out of the blue, so they needed to come home to pay their respects. He was lucky enough to get an extension, though, and stay for a week rather than the in-and-out weekend trip that he was originally planning. I was busy as high hell that week spending as much time as I could with him during that period, of course. ♥

His family's still here, but they'll be flying back to Canada real soon. It was nice, spending time with them.

I'll be in Singapore for a conference by the end of the week, and then it'll be off to Baguio the weekend after that with the family. THEN there's the holiday season. Christmas break is ridiculously short this time around, though, and it won't be long before I'm drowning under requirements again. Am also crossing my fingers on my application to another conference in Singapore, scheduled for February - it's fully funded, which saves me the trouble of scraping funds together. I am so broke these days, it's not funny.

Spent my money well this year, though. Had so much fun, and got so much stuff. I can't say that I regret it.

There's probably more to say, but I think this will do for now.
This is so overdue, it ain't funny.

IN CASE YOU DON'T WANNA CHASE TEAL DEERS:
+ I managed to submit my paper as planned! I also finished my teacherly work, although it took a lot longer than it should have. Lol, vacation mode. Good job, brain.
+ I may have discovered something that could land me a research scholarship thing in Japan.
+ This semester ended with a bang and lovely family things.
+ SENGOKU BASARA 3, CAN HAS.
+ Slept over at the Cheng Chua pad since Khursten is house sitting.
+ RP is starting to lose its flavor.
+ Fandom never gives me pretty things. :|
+ NaNoWriMo is coming up. I need to get my ass in gear and start warming up with ficcage. Undecided on what project to do, though.

And the long versions! )

The cat has greatly missed me, it seems, and it is also time for dinner.

50202 / 50000 words. 100% done!

I actually gunned the remaining 8,000 words that I had in a single seating on Thursday, but I got lazy to post about it until now. XD

Fastest NaNo completion I've had yet, but this was, perhaps, my hardest year doing it. Will use the time I've got left to take a break and go back to absorbing new material in preparation for Christmas.

QUICK PLUGS:
+ My Christmas Wishlist! ♥
+ Katekyo Hitman Reborn Fanmix. Dino Cavallone & Hibari Kyouya - From Year Zero to Ten.

Some people, [livejournal.com profile] _sabriel included, have been asking me about the books that I want, since I mentioned it as one of my items and I wasn't very specific. So here is a shortlist! )

Here's some real life updates.

I HAVE AN MA CLASS AGAIN. After all the heartache, the chair of my department stepped in when she found out that I'll be forced on a leave of absence due to the dissolving of all the classes that I could have enrolled in, so she has offered to hold a Development of Drama tutorial for me, one-on-one. What does this mean?

A.) We only meet a few times in the semester, and on our own terms.
B.) I do all the studying on my own, as I see fit.
C.) MY TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS AND SATURDAYS ARE PRETTY MUCH FREE MOST OF THE TIME! \o/
D.) Since I have more free time, I'll likely be using it to relax, step up my game with my teaching, write more, and finally go to driving school. CAN HAS WHEELS SOON.

I'm hella lucky, because Doctor Lulu is one of the best professors we've got. Now I'll have the privilege of learning under her in a very intimate setting.

On other school-related things: am getting my pace with my En12 and Lit14 classes. Looks like it won't be nearly as bad as I thought it would be. ...Then again, it may be too early to tell at this point.

Also: the new Rizal Library is kind of. Um. Shiny.

There's nothing like having a great set of friends to show you that life isn't difficult at all; merely interesting. ♥

I had this long-ass, thought out entry on how this week has been, but since my internet connection died for most of the day, you're all going to have to settle for pseudo-bullet points and weird rambling! \o/

MONDAY: NEW SCHEDULE SORTA on the driver's (my little brother) end, since he's got earlier classes. Cue me bouncing around like a madwoman, bugging [livejournal.com profile] khursten and other unfortunates until it was time to go back to my classes. Received the equivalent of a standing ovation from one class and hurrahs all around from the other two. Suchacute, freshmen. X3

Flailing over Poetry and English 12. That is all.

TUESDAY: I think this is where I started romping about, catching up on RP things and generating tags for me to occupy myself. I don't actually remember anymore. o_o

WEDNESDAY: TRUFAX LONGEST DAY saldkgh;kshdgh had a lunch meeting, did school things, did classes, flailed a lot, dragged feet over to an interesting faculty meeting, then zipped off to a reunion with my high school classmates.

A reunion's a reunion. Nuff said.

THURSDAY: ...More tagging. Also getting pissed off because the graduate studies class I fought for dissolved and everyone thought that it'd be a Smrt Idea to tell no one until the day itself. Am yet to find out if I'll end up having a class at all this semester.

If I don't, though, then I'll take it as a sign and maximize my break.

FRIDAY: FREEDOM. And tagging. Yes, there is a pattern. OH AND I HAVE A NEW KITTEN WHO IS WHITE AND STUPID AND SPUNKY and I have named him Gintoki.

Truly, I am Takasugi now. :D

SATURDAY: WE PLANNED ON WATCHING ASTRO BOY ONLY TO DISCOVER THAT IT'S NO LONGER SHOWING IN GLORIETTA OR GREENBELT. So me, [livejournal.com profile] kye_kestrel and [livejournal.com profile] khursten ended up dragging [livejournal.com profile] yukitsu around lady stores because she made the mistake of mentioning that she needed a dress.

We have pictures. 8)

Also: I WANT CLOTHES.

SUNDAY: Yeah, that'd be today. Posting much later than originally planned because wtaf, my connection went down for all of Saturday evening and most of today! I popped in briefly at Kourtyard to fap at do some logs with the usual suspects and make sure my karma doesn't hit rock bottom poke around with more of the same!

Been loading up on Poetry in my spare time, but I'm honestly, honestly lazy. Here's hoping I'll truly be in teacher mode soon. orz

EDIT: And before I could post this, the net died again. FML.

IF YOU HAVEN'T POSTED A REQUEST HERE, DO SO. Or I won't be able to give you anything for Christmas. /sadfaces at

A-also, for those of you who keep asking: I honestly have no idea what I want. G-get back to me some other time. ;;

27513 / 50000 words. 55% done!

One of the funny things I have discovered is that when I'm working on a long project like this one, I have to occasionally break away between scenes in order to watch or read porn.

I've never needed to do that before. o_o

Finally getting my RP groove back, and it is absolutely wonderful. I've also been archiving old entries in between all of this RL madness

ILU, guys. You know who you are. ♥

I could rant about the weird shizzle going on in [livejournal.com profile] hitman_reborn, and TL;DR on the art of fanmixing, but I'll save your flists the pain.

Was supposed to have my first MA class today, only to discover that it was dissolved.

I've talked about how hard it was to get that class in the first place, right?

FML.

ON OTHER NEWS MY KIDS SEEM VERY HAPPY TO SEE ME AGAIN. Idk whether it's because they like me or because they think I'm an easy professor to pass or both. Will have a proper report on that at the end of the week, yep.

18442 / 50000 words. 37% done!

Solved the dilemma that I got myself into, but still too slow on the writing front for my tastes. It helps, though, not writing linearly!

I'll be posting my status reports over at [livejournal.com profile] stitchedophelia for the interested. The first one is over here, with an excerpt featuring I-pin.

Pimping this meme entry again, because I like to TL;DR!

Anyway uh so what happened to me and why did I end up wasting so much time in ADMU over registration. Basically. they changed their policies when it comes to filing for tuition discounts, making it ten times more hassling than it used to be with extra signatures and photocopies and all... we weren't informed either (at least I wasn't, and I don't remember any announcement going up at the department), so I only found out about it after lining up several times over.

If that wasn't enough, there's the fact that after going through all the hassle, I was told that my class got "dissolved" - or more like, it's closed to outsiders, since it was meant to be a special tutorial for some of the other MA students in the department. It was just listed as an "official" class by accident.

So I go on campus the next day, and attempt to re-enlist for another class. Stupid AISIS doesn't allow me to. Twice over.

Yeah, it was a glorious fucking screw-up, I tell you.

I do firmly believe that the registrar over at my university should go through the process that they've made, just to see how inefficient and hassling it is firsthand. Maybe it'll kick them into coming up with something better.

On happier news, I got to go out with the Faura smoket group and celebrate [livejournal.com profile] hamster_friend's birthday in their very excellent company. Trust in Ateneans to balance out stupid inuman shit with highfalutin personal philosophies and ghost stories.

(Note: must invite group to house. Parents get finnicky about people whom they have not met in person yet.)

My parents celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary the next day, which was nice and intimate. Anika was trufax adorable, and Mimi (Pio's first daughter, and my goddaughter! *A*) made a guest appearance!

Was tired as heck by the time I got home (haven't slept all that early since Singapore), but ended up staying around until 2 AM, bugging [livejournal.com profile] khursten and writing with my Dying Will. Just stopped writing to make this entry.

School's starting up again tomorrow. I feel a little more prepared to teach the subjects they've assigned me to teach this semester: now it's just a matter of preparing my syllabi and leaping into the water.

10366 / 50000 words. 21% done!

Oooh look, a shiny word meter!

Have a bit of a dilemma now, though, because [livejournal.com profile] khursten and I were talking on a scene I managed to freewrite and omg I think I just derailed my own story. @_@

I hate it when I do that to myself.

Lagging on the tags over at the open log and the RP that I'm still in, and I do apologize for that. Sudden business before the beginning of the new semester, see!

Also: yesterday was FML, Ateneo Edition. [livejournal.com profile] khursten knows this well.

I'll explain in detail once everything is fixed.

BUT THE EVENING WAS NICE because I got to eat dinner out with [livejournal.com profile] simply_kim, [livejournal.com profile] nonartisan, [livejournal.com profile] dreamlessness and [livejournal.com profile] mochaholic.

Have another meme, guys.

♫♫ Pick a paragraph (or any passage less than 500
words) from any fanfic I've written, and comment
to this post with that selection. I will then
give you a DVD commentary on that snippet: what I
was thinking when I wrote it, why I wrote it in
the first place, what's going on in the character's
heads, why I chose certain words, what this moment
means in the context of the rest of the fic, and
anything else that you'd expect to find on a DVD
commentary track. ♫♫

For this, I blame [livejournal.com profile] desumethis.

...Oh hey, I rhymed.

ANYWAY UH I have no master list to speak of (sob, Imma sorry), but all my stuff, original or otherwise, is at [livejournal.com profile] stitchedophelia.

IN B4 I CHECK EVERYTHING because if I checked everything first I'll likely crash before doing this properly, which'll mean waking up and checking everything first and delaying this entry further. o_o

/incoherent

A-anyway uh so like I mentioned a few entries back and then some, I flew off to Singapore on the 27th with Khursten ([livejournal.com profile] khursten), Yukeh ([livejournal.com profile] yukitsu) and Lyn ([livejournal.com profile] kye_kestrel). This was our first trip out as a group (and Yukeh's first trip abroad ever), and it was the most glorious adventure we've had together yet.

SORT OF DISCLAIMER: I'm extremely lazy unorganized, and I'm not too fond of doing a blow-by-blow account of things, so this entry will likely be the "abridged" version of our whole trip with lots of personal teal deer on my end. Shove off to the entries my buddies will make if you want something to, er, supplement this. XD

They will also have pictures, which means that their entries will totally top mine by default.

SHENANIGANS. )

So now I'm back in my house, showered, properly fed, practically dead on my feet but feeling the best I've had in a while. I've missed home and I've missed my family, although I don't particularly miss my country with Singapore still on the brain.

I'll be frank and say that Singapore, while lovely, was probably a place that I'd like to visit again, but not live in ever. It's... got this weird feel to it. This neither-here-nor-there, lack of "cultural" ground ambiance that sort of gets to you if you're sensitive to that sort of things. I mean, it's safe and secure and really fucking pretty, but it somehow feels empty for me.

Of course, that's all an observation on my part. Whether it's fair or not, I don't know.

Nevertheless, I made some good memories in Singapore, and it will always go down in my personal history as the first place I traveled to in the company of friends. I am also likely going to go back there very often in the future if the economy is kind to me, because I've got some real friends there that I definitely wouldn't mind seeing time and time again, from here until whenever.

/takes a deep breath

SO NOW THAT THAT IS DONE it's likely back to the regular routine. Still got a few days of sem break left to enjoy, although faculty duties are bound to kick in for me, especially with the new subjects I'll be teaching. There is also NaNoWriMo to consider, and that open RP post that I'm supposed to do for everybody.

May also need some time to figure out how to get rid of the Singlish twang. I-it's even corrupted the narrative voice in my head, as I rather rudely discovered when I attempted to read some of my books during the trip.

And I still want chicken rice. Like, lots of it.

Sooooo, flist, what did I miss? :D

EDIT: WHAT THE SHIT FLIST 520+ ENTRIES?!
