Holy crap on a stick, this is what happens when I take the equivalent of 18 units of work between graduate studies and teaching.

I'm learning so much, but I am also definitely dying. And failing to check LJ or update. Again. +_+

(I actually hit the limit of entries I can scroll back to on my flist. Sob, what the hell did I miss?!)

Quick points, though: I did participate in NaNoWriMo this year, and completed it ahead of schedule. I normally post with a lot more fanfare, but I just couldn't get myself to do regular updates this time, even if I kept promising myself that I would...

Sort of resolved to do a regular word count every month from now, but I haven't been able to fulfill that promise just yet out of sheer Busy and Tired. I plan on gunning as soon as I've got a moment to myself. Whenever that will happen, anyway.

My brother who's based in Toronto also turned up like, three weeks ago with his family: none of us were expecting him to visit so soon, including him. His wife's aunt had died out of the blue, so they needed to come home to pay their respects. He was lucky enough to get an extension, though, and stay for a week rather than the in-and-out weekend trip that he was originally planning. I was busy as high hell that week spending as much time as I could with him during that period, of course. ♥

His family's still here, but they'll be flying back to Canada real soon. It was nice, spending time with them.

I'll be in Singapore for a conference by the end of the week, and then it'll be off to Baguio the weekend after that with the family. THEN there's the holiday season. Christmas break is ridiculously short this time around, though, and it won't be long before I'm drowning under requirements again. Am also crossing my fingers on my application to another conference in Singapore, scheduled for February - it's fully funded, which saves me the trouble of scraping funds together. I am so broke these days, it's not funny.

Spent my money well this year, though. Had so much fun, and got so much stuff. I can't say that I regret it.

There's probably more to say, but I think this will do for now.

Final paper's been printed and submitted.

Paycheck came in, thirteenth month pay attached

Administered the final exam for my lit kids this afternoon. Have to check those, and the last few student papers I have coming in, but generally, I am free.

It feels really good, knowing that I don't have to think much of anything srs for a bit.

Wrote all of these for [livejournal.com profile] g3sshoku, who celebrated her birthday recently! I'll likely work on more fics tomorrow, if I'm not eaten up by marathons of playing more TWEWY.

/crawls off to bed
My weekend was pretty wild, because I kicked it off by hanging with my ADMU family over at Ayala Techno Park (AN EXTREMELY SHINY PLACE IS EXTREMELY SHINY) and THEN it was off to meet with the girls the next day.

Started off with me swinging by Medical City to see [livejournal.com profile] yukitsu, [livejournal.com profile] khursten and [livejournal.com profile] kye_kestrel - we ate lunch before heading up to help Rachel's family out with her dad's hospital room. Teng Papan is perfectly fine from the looks of it! *w*

After Rachel went off with her family, we took a road trip around to pick Khursten's mom up and drop Lyn off before we hit Khursten's hood. We rolled around until late evening before zooming over to [livejournal.com profile] 77ws's party thing WHICH DID NOT HAVE PRITCHON, FEEL MY DISAPPOINTMENT WAVES OVER THE INTERNET--!

People spotted:
- [livejournal.com profile] psychoshoujo, [livejournal.com profile] gzep (who is srsly amazing when he is tipsy/drunk) and [livejournal.com profile] seraph_dreams!
- Sammi and Justin, who holds the distinction of being her boyfriend for more than a year. Good job, Justin. T^Tb
- [livejournal.com profile] menismastah and the Antarctics folks! Adz, your hair! o_o

Night passed into morning in a haze of way too much laughing and a whole lot of booze. Khursten and I went home by 2, but we didn't sleep all that much due to Srs Talk, which I'll likely poke the other girls about at the soonest opportunity.

Running on minimal sleep at the moment and back at home, but I'm still hoping that the family will decide to eat out. It's been a while since we've done that~

EDIT, A FEW HOURS LATER: Yeah, we went out. It was amazing. |D

This coming week will be the last week of regular classes - got some papers to check, consultations to do, a final exam to deliver and a paper to fish. GO SELF, U CAN DUUU IT~

Aaaand once vacation hits, I'll be in holy shit Singapore.

Holy shit. Time flies! D:
Right, so. Yesterday was the first regular school day after the shitstorm that was Ondoy.

The atmosphere was rather... well. It wasn't great, but it wasn't entirely terrible. Still, it's rather haunting, going around and hearing people talk about nothing else but what happened, or occasionally spotting someone crying on someone else's shoulder. My students, for the most part, are okay - we talked long and much about exactly how the tragedy could have reached critical mass the way it did, along with a more regular concern: grades.

I've just spent most of my day checking all of their remaining requirements and computing for their class standing - it doesn't look like I'll be failing anyone this semester, and overall, everyone did stellar in my classes. Tomorrow will involve some negotiations on the parts of a few of my students, and I'll probably let them have their desired grade bumps if they can argue with me well enough.

On the grad studies end of things, I've still got a paper to write. Felt shitty over the past few weeks, so I really haven't been able to do it. Thankfully, I returned to my calm and happy place by rolling around and fixing all (yes, all) of my backlogged files and changing my icon sets, so I think I'm recharged enough to give it a shot. Tonight, perhaps.

Now let's talk internet things.

First off: HI AND HELLO TO THE NEW FOLKS THAT [livejournal.com profile] jusrecht INTRODUCED ME TO! ♥

Aaaand pimp outs.

I've actually finished a host of other prompts from the ones people requested from me sometime back, but I won't be posting them up just yet.

...Right, back to work.
Head's up: long-ass entry ahead.

...And I haven't even changed my icons around in the longest time. /sob

School, Teacher Stuff, POC and related matters. )

Now, before I go on to talk about everything else, I think I owe this much to Corazon Aquino, the woman whom my countrymen just laid to rest the other night.

Two Cents for Tita Cory. )

Posted this over at my official blog, verbatim.

For the people interested in my Nine Inch Nails faggotry, I'll be posting an entry on that over there too. Link will follow once it's up.

It doesn't feel right posting ANGY! and BITCH! on the same entry as my word on Mrs. Aquino, so go and check the entry that'll come after this one for that.

I DO want the internet to know, though, that I think a case study ought to be done on Twilight and why the hell its fans are batshit insane. Just read the persona account of an RPer buddy of a friend, who was basically forced to vanish from the internet due to a rabid Twitard beating her over the head with a golf club.

No. I'm not kidding. And this probably isn't the first report of Twilight-related violence that has come out. Oddly enough, the cases seem to occur only in America.

It sounds silly, but the scholar in me is honestly pinged. Don't be surprised if I suddenly announce that I'm reading Meyer's work - it only means that I'm out to make a cultural studies analysis on the book in relation to this particular generation of America's youth, and what factors may contribute to the questionable behavior of a good number of these readers.

...Clearly, Pammeth needs to get a life. /cough
Writing this partially to let everyone on this side of the Internet know that I'm still very much alive, just totally swamped with real life things and generally lazy to post. Blogging requires a ridiculous amount of effort when most of the fun's moved to individual chat windows and Plurk. orz

Haven't changed out of my clothes yet either - am fresh from another faculty meeting on campus, and coming in a little later than usual because I wanted to get some work done while I was kicking around in the department. I figure, too, that if I dress down I'll just get lazy again, so. Yeah.

And they called it TEAL DEER. )
This entry is LONG OVERDUE, but I've spent the last few days drowning in paperwork -- this was something that I did on purpose, as I wanted to make sure that I did all my teacherly stuff before the actual break. That way, I'd be free to party slack off be productive in other, less academic areas of my life throughout the Christmas season. I CAN HAPPILY COLLAPSE IN A CORNER SOMEWHERE NOW THAT EVERYTHING IS DONE! \o/

Srsly, though, this Responsible Adult thing? Sometimes I want to kick myself in the head for it. I might work myself straight to the coffin at this rate. Somebody needs to tell me when to slow down. *fail*

[livejournal.com profile] kye_kestrel had her birthday celebration last Saturday over at Powerplant; [livejournal.com profile] anothermiyaw hitched a ride with me from Katipunan, after my Texts and Textuality Class. Traffic was bad, so we kinda ended up shooting the breeze for the good hour that we spent swimming through a sea of cars. Met up with the boss and [livejournal.com profile] yukitsu once we got there: everyone else - [livejournal.com profile] khrusten, [livejournal.com profile] 77ws, [livejournal.com profile] ficcentricity and [livejournal.com profile] lonelybusiness who is fail because she thought we were meeting up in Glorietta - arrived later. Cue dinner shenanigans. Cue crazy gifts. KRISTEL, UNDERSTAND THE CHAOS YOU BROUGHT DOWN UPON ALL OF US WITH THOSE GIFTS. B|

Spent the next few days after that Drowning in Papers whenever I was home and doing school shenanigans whenever I was in Ateneo. Finally managed to finish up everything sometime last night, and today was light and easy. Had my first Christmas party with the English Department. That was pretty much an awesome way to kick off my break. ♥

Goals That Will Probably Not Be Met For Christmas Break 2008:
* Work on my pitch to Image Comics. I'm planning on pitching Endtimes. *crosses fingers*
* BOND WITH MY PS2. ASDK;LHG;LAHSDGHADSG TOO MANY PEOPLE POSTING ABOUT PERSONA 4.
* BOND WITH MY PSP. I'VE ONLY BEEN USING IT FOR MUSIC. orz
* Catch up with my backlogged anime, manga, movies and TV series. The list keeps growing, whut.
* Catch up with all the books I've bought but haven't even really cracked open.
* Sort all those images. I HAD A GOOD START.
* Fix my game plan for the rest of the semester with my kids.
* Write more Return on Investment after I've finished all my Christmas gift fics.

Now that I've mentioned it, I should be posting some of the gift fics that I managed to finish before work came rolling in. In the meantime, I'm pimping out the fics that I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] kye_kestrel - I did my usual ## number of drabbles = to celebrant's age thing for her~

My thirteenth month pay thingie came in last week, and Mom just put it on time deposit - this means a huge rate of return in terms of interest every month. This suddenly makes some plans that I had for 2009 very feasible, so I've decided to go for a major Poverty Plan to make sure that I achieve them at the projected dates.

Here's hoping that I make it.

THIS WEEKEND WAS AMAJING. THANK YOU, PHILIPPINE KOUSHIEN!

I know I should post more about everything that happened (crazy shopping, crazy talking, crazy car rides, crazy bed breaking, crazy cooking, crazy bitchery, crazy--), but I think the combination of my cold and the Pepsi Deluxe can I just drank down is making me giddy and high and not all that capable of being detailed about things.

FREEDOM IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER.

WATCH ME RP ON PLURK AND LJ AND TOTALLY IGNORE THE FACT THAT I STILL HAVE A PAPER TO WRITE AND STUDENT WORK TO CHECK.

Also: BOSS, YOUR BUNNIES ARE THE CUTEST THINGS ON EARTH.

Advertising this again because srsly: WE NEED a Tsuna MORE PLAYERS.

Serious Business
Premise
There are three publishing companies you need to know in Namimori. They market all over the world, you see. They are the Vongola & Associates, a publishing company that markets children's and young adult fiction. Because, you know, that stuff sells. Sometimes, textbooks too, since all the Vongola ever want to do is satisfy the need for books for children and young adults, may it be for leisure or education. The Millefiore&Co., who have recently published several award winning novels and non-fiction stories. They have branched out to try to corner the market on everything but text books. Last but not the least, the Varia, a start up company that specializes in erotic magazines and collections of erotic short stories. But they are also known for producing books and magazines on fashion, trends and pop culture. It's just that once you start publishing ero magazines, everyone thinks that's all you publish.

Now, what does this have to do with you?

Welcome to the world of Publishing. You either work for one (or all, if you're a freelancer) of the above companies as a writer, an editor, a translator, heck, you might just even be a janitor or a board member. Or, you work for Kokuyo, the local bookstore. It doesn't matter which place you work for-- Publishing is serious business.
