50202 / 50000 words. 100% done!

I actually gunned the remaining 8,000 words that I had in a single seating on Thursday, but I got lazy to post about it until now. XD

Fastest NaNo completion I've had yet, but this was, perhaps, my hardest year doing it. Will use the time I've got left to take a break and go back to absorbing new material in preparation for Christmas.

Some people, [livejournal.com profile] _sabriel included, have been asking me about the books that I want, since I mentioned it as one of my items and I wasn't very specific.

Note that this is done pretty much in order of preference.

  • Snow White, Blood Red. Fell in love with some of the stories here during my retellings class, and it is nearly impossible to find a copy down here. T_T
  • Black Heart, Ivory Bones. The second anthology of retellings, from the same folks who compiled Snow White, Blood Red.
  • Black Thorn, White Rose. Third anthology, for great justice!
  • White as Snow. I absolutely ADORE Tanith Lee, and have come to realize that the only books by her that are available here are her young adult series. Not necessarily a bad thing, but definitely not what I'm looking to read.
  • The New York Times Guide to Essential Knowledge, because you can't go wrong with the NY Times.
  • The Locus Awards. This is perhaps the best anthology I've seen for sci-fi, horror and fantasy, and I don't have a copy. OTL
  • Paprika, by Yasutaka Tsutsui. This is the novel which that trippy movie's based off of. Saw a copy in Kinokuniya when I was over at Singapore, but I had to let it go. /cries
  • Lucky Hans and Other Merz Fairy Tales. ...Yeah, I have a soft spot for retellings.
  • Shinsengumi: The Shogun's Last Samurai Corps. This is one of the books that I see around and always wish I could buy, but never get to. >_>
  • Manga: 60 Years of Comic Books. Read this from cover to cover because of [livejournal.com profile] khursten, and now I really want my own copy.
  • Manga! Manga!: The World of Japanese Comics. I'm a dork. Bite me. 8|
  • Dreamland Japan: Writings on Modern Manga. ...STOP JUDGING ME.
  • Reference books on Yoshiwara, like this one.
  • Ryu Murakami stuff! I've read some of his work, and I really enjoy it. Have only managed to nail a copy of Almost Transparent Blue so far.
  • Banana Yoshimoto's works, beyond N.P.
  • Marcel Proust and his ginormous epic In Search for Lost Time series~
  • Ray Bradbury's works, either novels that you think I'd like or short story anthologies.
  • Works by Margaret Atwood, except Oryx & Crake (since I have it already)
  • Works by Kurt Vonnegut. Am very curious about him!
  • Works by Umberto Eco, except for The Name of the Rose (since I have that!)
  • MUSHISHI, beyond volume one. In English!
  • EDEN, beyond volume one. Also in English!
  • The Dream Hunters. I NEVER MANAGED TO GET A HOLD OF IT.
  • House of Leaves. Never managed to get a copy of this one either. u_u
  • Haruki Murakami stuff, because he's one of those authors I like but never get around to really collecting. I've only got The Elephant Vanishes, Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, and Norwegian Wood.

Then there's the usual fare of comics. I'm desperately short on pretty much everything except Sandman, Lucifer and Fables - am really looking to start collecting oneshots, like Pride of Baghdad or Blankets, or the one shots that they release for the DC and Marvel universe. ...Good ones, mind you.

Am also looking for excellent anthologies for essays and other works of non-fiction. Poetry anthologies are more than welcome too~ barring that, I'd love to have books on writing, which may help me and my students in the future.

Here's some real life updates.

I HAVE AN MA CLASS AGAIN. After all the heartache, the chair of my department stepped in when she found out that I'll be forced on a leave of absence due to the dissolving of all the classes that I could have enrolled in, so she has offered to hold a Development of Drama tutorial for me, one-on-one. What does this mean?

A.) We only meet a few times in the semester, and on our own terms.
B.) I do all the studying on my own, as I see fit.
C.) MY TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS AND SATURDAYS ARE PRETTY MUCH FREE MOST OF THE TIME! \o/
D.) Since I have more free time, I'll likely be using it to relax, step up my game with my teaching, write more, and finally go to driving school. CAN HAS WHEELS SOON.

I'm hella lucky, because Doctor Lulu is one of the best professors we've got. Now I'll have the privilege of learning under her in a very intimate setting.

On other school-related things: am getting my pace with my En12 and Lit14 classes. Looks like it won't be nearly as bad as I thought it would be. ...Then again, it may be too early to tell at this point.

Also: the new Rizal Library is kind of. Um. Shiny.

There's nothing like having a great set of friends to show you that life isn't difficult at all; merely interesting. ♥

Do the books have to be brand new? Or is it okay if it's secondhand? :D

As long as they're in good condition, I'm cool with it. Second hand books are already well loved, after all~ ♥

Yeah, I might actually add a book to those clothes! I know exactly what to give you -- since I've been scavenging the bookstores and libraries for Kurt Vonnegut books since I've been introduced to an excerpt of The Sirens of Titan 8DDD

Yay for NaNo completion and having a class and free time!

Uuuug, driving school. I need to find a non-insane time to schedule my test. DX

NANO COMPLETION MEANS MORE MOLESTATION! \o/

Ahahaha. My dad is making my mother and I go to this insanely far driving school. I don't really mind, though - can't trust the other ones down here. They're okay, but... yeah.

Wooo hoo!

Ah, I'm just making my wonderfully tolerant roomie go out with me. Which still involves driving a half-hour to where the car is being stored ATM, because the car down here is a manual transmission, and I don't want to try dealing with a clutch right now.

Ne, the next time you come here, I'll give you one of my copies of Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid Tale? FREE TO GOOD HOME, though sorry, second-hand D:
