Didn't sleep at all on the plane. We took Cathay Pacific on both round (to Hong Kong, then to Vancouver), and that pretty much made me feel the difference between a world-class sort of airline and... well, Philippine Airlines. Sat with my bro and this quiet girl who was traveling alone. Best things about the plane: in-flight entertainment system and the novelty of having a plug for one's laptop which I didn't use because lololol movies. Fliks watched: A Beautiful Mind, I Am Number Four, Dead Poets Society and Tron: Legacy.

The (incredibly large and shiny) airport felt vaguely familiar to me, and at first, I thought that maybe I was just trying to find something familiar in it, given the fact that I used to live in Vancouver. Then I saw that huge-ass wood carving right before you hit Immigration, and I remembered the first time I went to Vancouver airport en-route to the Philippines. Ah, I told myself. There you go.

Our old maid - one of the two that came with my family when we first migrated, and ended up making lives for themselves abroad - picked us up from the airport: she was really, REALLY happy to see us. It had been around five years since she had seen our parents, and over a decade since she'd seen my little bro and I. Peter was all "o_o" at how different everything was, and my parents and I spent the entire trip just staring at our old hometown, taking in how everything was both familiar and strange. I totally recognized the entire route across Lion's Gate Suspension Bridge all the way to North Shore, though: it was the way my dad always took us when we wanted to go into the city, and the streets my mom and I drove on our daily Pick The Entire Family Up Routine on weekdays.

That was around the time that it really hit me, in spite of the fact that I wasn't entirely awake and kind of really floating. I was in a place I used to call home. I could recognize all the bends and twists and turns and sounds.

We're currently staying at this family lodge called Travel Lodge, close to Lion's Gate Suspension Bridge - we're all in one room together, and our old maid left us with Supplies and Food. The only thing I've done so far is sleep - folks went out for a bit, as did my little bro. Dad's asleep right now, mom is talking on the hotel phone with a very old friend, and my bro's beside me, leaning on my shoulder. We'll probably go out tomorrow and visit all the old haunts.

Ooooh, amazing! I'm heading to LA right now (I'm actually at the airport leeching free wifi). I guess we're both in vacation mode, huh? :)
