You know how sometimes people on your friend's list post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when are they working THERE? Since when are they dating HIM/HER? since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you *should* already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.

Please copy mine below, erase my answers putting yours in their place then post it in your journal! Please elaborate on the questions that would benefit from elaboration! One-Word-Answers seldom help anyone out :)

1. First Name: First names, you mean. Maria Pamela here~ the Maria is a result of the usual Filipino Virgin Mary adoration thing, and the Pamela… well, my Dad was fixated upon this idea of naming all of his kids with names that started with P, so there you have it. It was this or Penelope. B|

2. Age: 23 rhymes with whee~

3. Location: Philippines. I’m sitting back in my Brand New Office Chair with Kings of Convenience playing on my Winamp, writing out this entry.

4. Occupation: Part-time Lecturer in the English Department of Ateneo de Manila University. Down here where I am, that’s a very, very big thing, I think.

5. Partner?: If you mean romantic partner, I don’t got none. I DO have lots of partners-in-crime, though. Like, my whole f-list. Say Hello, f-list.

6. Kids: HAHAHAHA THAT’S A GOOD ONE. …Do my 90+ students count?

7. Brothers/Sisters: Five brothers and three sisters-in-law. I bet you guys will kill me if I leave it at that, so, er, here goes nothing. B|

PETRIK is my oldest brother~ he’s past thirty, and working for this Korean company that does the usual English Language Teaching thing for pros. His wife, Yas, is one of the most awesome people I’ve met, and it isn’t just because she can effortlessly handle my lovable but hella stubborn bro. She and I talk about books a lot. People say that Petrik and I look the most alike… in fact, when I got a pixie cut in high school, Peter used to mistake me for Petrik. @_@

PAOLO is my second eldest brother, but in reality, he’s the "youngest" among the Punzalan siblings. I don’t like him much. I talk about him the most on my LJ, so there really isn’t a need for me to describe him further. Nor do I want to. Did I mention that I don’t like him much?

PHILIP is my third bro… he’s over in Toronto now, so I really don’t get to talk to him much. His wife, Liza, totally owns his soul, and it’s not always in a good way. I do love Phil to bits though.

PIO is my youngest older brother (…that sounded weird, didn’t it?), and the dude I see most often because he’s just hanging around in the office (he’s going to take over the family business once my Dad retires). He’s the wittiest and sharpest among us, but in the end, he’s a total goofball. He’s married to Mai Mai, from the Republic of Alabang.

PETER is my one and only younger brother – where my four older brothers grew up as a posse, he and I grew up together, so we’re pretty much inseparable. I may complain about this kid on a regular basis, but I would never trade him for anything else.

8. Pets: A hyperactive Labrador retriever named Cole and a snarky, semi-feral cat named Prince.

9. List the 3-5 biggest things going on in your life:
Work. THE PAPERS, I AM DROWNING IN THEM. SEE MY LJ HEADER? THAT’S ME.
Graduate studies. I’m trying NOT to think about the fact that for every class, I will be writing an undergraduate thesis-level paper.
Writing. I haven’t really found the time for it at the moment, but I honestly think I’m improving, and I am getting a bit of an audience for both my original works and my fanfics. If all goes well, it’ll take me places someday.

10. Parents:

CIRENEO, full-time CEO, father, problem-solver and witty bastard. I am not kidding when I say that I wouldn’t be who I was without this man. He’s older now and not getting any younger, but he always has us in mind, and I will always love him for it.

EMILIE, full-time mom and part-time family counselor. Every now and then, my dad will tell us how if Mom ends up dying ahead of us, she will be the one threatening to bash St. Peter’s skull in if he decides that we’re not worthy to enter heaven. Mom looks like a sweet woman, but she turns into a Level 100 Paladin when it comes to the well-being of her kids.

11. Who are some of your closest friends?
[livejournal.com profile] khursten, [livejournal.com profile] yukitsu, [livejournal.com profile] kye_kestrel, [livejournal.com profile] ryvaeus (YEAH WE’RE RELATED BUT HE STILL COUNTS DAMN IT), [livejournal.com profile] ultra_arvin, [livejournal.com profile] laurgasm, [livejournal.com profile] xhael, [livejournal.com profile] hamster_friend, and [livejournal.com profile] psychoshoujo are the first people who come to mind. [livejournal.com profile] aerien, [livejournal.com profile] amaranth_blooms, [livejournal.com profile] le_esperance, [livejournal.com profile] sindapa, [livejournal.com profile] verjill, [livejournal.com profile] sortinghatlover and [livejournal.com profile] magnetic_rose are also dear to me, and even if we don’t get to talk all that much these days, I wouldn’t ever think of replacing [livejournal.com profile] omnicresence, [livejournal.com profile] y_u_r_i_k_o and [livejournal.com profile] _stillframe_ for anyone else… the same could be said about [livejournal.com profile] factorielle, and yes, Drae, this is my indirect and not very subtle way of telling you THAT WE NEED TO TALK MORE!. I’ve just met [livejournal.com profile] synatri, [livejournal.com profile] ficcentricity, [livejournal.com profile] dreamlessness, [livejournal.com profile] rainy_takako and [livejournal.com profile] lonelybusiness, but due to their awesomeness, I feel like I have known them forever and I am very possessive of them. Internet connection has gone sucky again (must be the weather), but thankfully, I uploaded a lot of stuff ahead of time.

Love Songs Mix: The Last Love Song on Earth (Set Two)
Here are love songs for pairs/relationships with epic UST, angst & overall, just lots of issues. o_o.

…I’m posting seventeen songs this time around and my connection’s bad, so I’ll skip the lyrics. I hope you guys don’t mind. ~_~

Arcade Fire – My Body is a Cage
This one’s a slow dance, with dim lights and painful proximity.

Asche & Spencer – I’m Never Gonna Sleep Tonight
I think I’ve proven time and again that instrumentals can be pretty damned powerful, and this one is no exception.

Bear McCreary – Roslin & Adama
This one’s off the Battlestar Galactica soundtrack… it’s the theme song for two of the most awesome characters in the series, and their geriatric love affair.

Ben Lee – Aftertaste
The aftertaste is going to break your heart.

Chris Thomas King – Hard Time Killing Floor Blues
Listen to it. Nuff said.

Elbow – About Time
I’m not sure whether it’s right of me to compare Elbow to Coldplay, but that’s the sort of sound they have, I think. For those of you who haven’t tried them out, this track might be an okay intro. I’ll be posting others in the future.

Emm Gryner – I’ll Stick Around
…Because even if you want to leave and you swear you will, you know that you’ll never do it.

Guano Apes – Don’t You Turn Your Back on Me (String Version)
"Stunning" is the only word that I can think of when I listen to this, and it’s a poor way to describe the kind of effect this song has on its listeners. I don’t know what the original is like, but if it’s as perfect as this version, I am so downloading it.

Jeff Buckley – We All Fall in Love Sometimes (Live)
…How can you go wrong with the dude that brought us the masterpiece called "Hallelujah"? I know that this one is a remake, but he does it such so well.

Mad at Gravity – At Vain
This isn’t the best song I’ve heard from this band, but it certainly fits this mix well.

Papa Roach – Take Me
…BEFORE YOU LAUGH, DOWNLOAD THIS AND LISTEN TO IT. It’s actually quite nice! …But, really, I just threw this in here because I want to show that "Last Resort" wasn’t their only decent song.

Pearl Jam – Indifference
Apathy is what always defines pairings like these.

The Great Invisibles – Laughter & Grace
"Sometimes, smiling your way through it makes your situation all the more pathetic."

Thea Gilmore – Ever Fallen in Love
Correct me if I’m wrong, but this one’s a remake, right? @_@ Um, anyway, it’s a really… dramatic song? Er. I suck at this description thing.

Tom McRae – A Day Like Today
Tom McRae’s a pretty unique singer… it’s hard to pin his sound. If I’m to be geeky about it, I’d say it’s sublime in the gothic way: pretty in a creepy, indescribable sort of way.

Travis – ReOffender
Repetition: it isn’t always the best thing since sliced bread.

Vangelis – Le petite fille de la mer
…I actually don’t know what the title means, but the sound and feel of this song was enough of a clincher for me.

…I’LL TRY NOT TO DO MASSIVE DUMPS LIKE THIS AGAIN.

I had sort of planned to stay home today in order to recover from my EXTREME WEDNESDAY SCHEDULE!, but I ended up going out from morning til dinnertime. o_o First half of the day was spent in the library on campus in order to complete my homework for Lit 201, and I had to drop off some more things for my cubicle in the department.

Ate lunch at home, then headed out with my Mom to buy an office chair. I'm sitting in it now, and thoroughly enjoying myself. IT'S BLACK AND MESH AND SHINY AND BEST OF ALL, IT HAS A FULL BACKREST AND ARMRESTS! …Then I had to run around with her as she did some Motherly Errands, but that was cool because part of that included going to Santi's (which meant getting to buy more cold cuts for early morning sandwiches) and National Bookstore (which meant getting school supplies for free! Again!). Dad finished up early in the office, so he hitched a ride home.

Some of you might have noticed this already, but my outings with my mom have become my only opportunities to really talk to her about the situation at home and the things -- or more like, thing -- that bugs me. Of course, the conversation naturally went towards my brother.

Let's backtrack a bit. Paolo was with us for breakfast, and somehow, we got to talking about the stuff I've been up to ADMU and, inevitably, graduate studies… he did the usual idiotic Paolo Thing by talking about his Grand Plans™. Because I am obligated to be polite and at least LOOK like I care about what he does with his life, I suggested that he considers taking up History electives in the future. Of course, I said this on the assumption that he would feel things out first and see if he can handle his current schedule.

Anyway, we – that is, me, him and my parents – all rode out together after breakfast: Mom had a meeting in Xavierville, Dad had to go to work, and Paolo and I both had to go on campus to do our own things. Mom was dropped off first, and on the way to Ateneo, Paolo suddenly chimes in with "Say, Pam (which is his usual annoying way of greeting me or getting my attention)~ do you think I’ll make it in La Salle? Do they pay well?" See, apparently, he thinks that reading ESL books, taking some half-baked units in Education and informally tutoring Korean kids for a few months will magically make him eligible to be a lecturer in a university that is not only halfway across the city, but a place where he has no connections and no "legacy" to back him up.

The utter lack of logic. It boggles.

Even though my first instinct was to smack him upside head, I controlled myself and calmly pointed out the fact that La Salle is extremely far from our house, and that he ought to slow down and see how things go at present before he thinks about doing anything else. My dad, however, did not feel the need to be courteous and said exactly what I wanted to say: "Stop going all over the place and focus. You’re setting yourself up for failure." Paolo, being the stubborn git that he is, goes all defensive and hotly retorted with "I am NOT setting myself up for failure! I am perfectly healthy!"

…So says the passive aggressive bratastic schizophrenic diabetic.

Mom wasn’t around to diffuse the situation, so I charged on with other topics of conversation to divert both of them, completely ignoring the fact that Paolo was still attempting to mumble on other defensive things to make himself feel better about being chastised like the child he is. Later on, while I was in the furniture shop with my mother, I mentioned what had happened, and inevitably started bitching again about The Electives Incident. Mom did her usual "In Defense of Paolo" things, but at this point, the both of us know what the problem is, and it certainly doesn’t lie with me.

Later on, while the drivers were piling my chair into the car, Mom told me about how Paolo was actually complaining about how the elective he stole from me is similar to one of the other electives that he’s taking for his course. She and Dad both ended up telling him that he should have been more careful, and they also tried to explain why I was pissed off at him. Of course, he had decided to be a defensive fuck AGAIN at that point and whined back, saying something like "I DIDN’T FORCE HER OUT OF IT! SHE LEFT THE CLASS OF HER OWN FREE WILL!"

…Yeah, Paolo’s very good at pinning the blame on the world. Anyway, since he wasn’t around for dinner, my parents, my grandmother and I ended up talking about him again. Mom has confirmed for me what [livejournal.com profile] kye_kestrel has been telling me for about a month now: Paolo’s a social chameleon right now. Since he’s empty inside, he copies certain aspects of other peoples’ personalities to compensate, especially if they are people he admires or wants to be. Hence, since Peter has a PSP, he wants one, even if he can’t actually afford one. Since I’m taking up Lit, he’ll take my electives even though they have close to nothing to do with his track. Since Dad drinks tomato juice, he’ll drink it too, even if he doesn’t particularly like tomato juice.

My experience in this semester will be the last straw. I have made my decision: even if it brings the downfall of the Punzalan Family (or at the very least, a thirty-one-year-old man in the shape of my pathetic older brother whining at me), I am setting my foot down next year. I’m going to viciously guard every single lit elective on the curriculum and bully him into doing something else. Even if I end up making a scene in the English Department, I am going to make sure he never, EVER touches my turf again.

Ladies and gentlemen, once again: my brother.

...It took me two hours to make this post. That's excluding the number of times I had to edit this because of the coding.

LJ-cuts are magical. They make otherwise long posts look extremely short. o_o

"Stop going all over the place and focus. You’re setting yourself up for failure."

"I am NOT setting myself up for failure! I am perfectly healthy!"

Excuse me, but how is that statement related? o.O Earth logic, he can't has it.

I dunno, Pam, Pao really seems like he's trying to compete with you, or maybe you guys, but more importantly, you. You're a decade younger and looking great? IDK. Haha, cry moar, Pao. What a brat, gawd. I feel bad that you live with him, which would be lulz to say coz you prolly feel worse that you live with him.

On less wtf notes: WHY ISN'T COLE NAMED POLE? I just realized that. B|

♥ u~~

From: [identity profile] izkariote.livejournal.com

He's always assuming that we're holding him back because he's sick. While that's partially true, I think he needs to realize that it's a reality he needs to contend with, not run away screaming from.

...I think things are slowly reaching the point where I will stop caring about him altogether, and the only emotion he will manage to inspire in me will be Annoyance.

AS TO YOUR OTHER NEWS.

Pole is a disturbing name for a dog, and ILU too!

From: [identity profile] yukitsu.livejournal.com

:< Deal with by trying to eat Peter's chocolates and your toblerone? How awesome.

... I wouldn't be surprised if that happened. Ah, well, you did try to get along with him.

No, no, it would be epic! "POLE IS STANDING UP! POLE JUMPED ON ME! MOM, WHAT'S POLE DOING TO THAT PUSSY CAT?"

Uhi~~

From: [identity profile] izkariote.livejournal.com

AND LET'S NOT FORGET THE WHOLE ELECTIVES-STEALING THING, FOLKS. :D

That may be the tragic truth of my life: that my conscience will continue to obligate me to keep trying to like him. :< Hit me when I'm being stupid, okey?

From: [identity profile] tristantrakand.livejournal.com

He's always assuming that we're holding him back because he's sick.

Yeah, I know I just mostly lurk, but this irritated me. It's not like you didn't have to grapple with health problems yourself, and you dealt with it just fine. He should man up and do the same.

ANYWAY.

*hug*

From: [identity profile] izkariote.livejournal.com

*hugs*

The most annoying part about it is that he's just gotten even MORE defensive since I seem to be doing a lot better in spite of everything. HONESTLY, manliness is not something he excels in.

From: [identity profile] ficcentricity.livejournal.com

The feeling, it is mutual. I was so surprised, I don't normally get along with people so well or that quickly! Clearly my friends from the internet are all awesome.♥

YAY I AM AWESOME.

...Shoot me for that, but I need an ego boost right now. B|

Without the coding fail this time.

... I sort of exhausted everything I wanted to say on YM. And I was clearly rambling even then.

But it's nice to see your siblings listed out like this? Because they confuse me sometimes - among the Punzalan kids, I'm most familiar with you, Peter, and Paolo - and that makes my knowledge screwed up if Paolo's the third name that comes up when I think of you guys. orz.

I see my name mentioned! Twice! I feel fuzzy about that for some reason. x_x

ILU, Pam~

Re: Without the coding fail this time.

Lulz, I'm not too surprised~ Pio was busy and Phil and Pet were already out of the house by the time you and I really started talking a lot and hanging out. :3

♥♥♥

TWINCEST! xD

And yay for random song dumps. :3

Actually, your bro would have a shot at teaching in La Salle. They're always in need of teachers, and Benilde is one of the few colleges that can hire faculty with even a smudge of experience. But sticking around long-term is always going to be a problem. They rarely hang on to their teachers for long.

Your brother's defensiveness...err, well... considering his condition -- -_-

*random hugs* :3

From: [identity profile] izkariote.livejournal.com

There's a lot more music to come, bb~

Really? That's not what I'm hearing from everyone else. @ La Salle. ...Then again, either way, the prospects don't look good. If they don't let him in on the fly, he'll whine. If they let him in then boot him out soon after, he'll whine.

Iyeah, no matter what happens, Pao's going to find a way to make it look horrendous. ~_~

*glomp*

I HAVE 18 MORE PRE-UPLOADED SONGS BEFORE I HAVE TO DO THINGS THE HARD WAY AGAIN. 8Db

(Yes, you do! ♥)

Yay! Music. Thanks :)

By the way, "Le petite fille de la mer" is something like "The little girl from the sea."

Would like to say something else, but horrible headache doesn't want to go.

From: [identity profile] izkariote.livejournal.com

Ou, thanks for letting me know~

Headaches are evil. .-. *offers virtual massage*

From: [identity profile] omnicresence.livejournal.com

Sorry to hear about your current sibling woes -- I wouldn't directly criticize Paolo for the fact that he's your brother and it's not my place, but I am quite aware of the agony that you've had to endure all these years, and I fully support your decision to put your foot down when it's your own life and comfort that are in contention here.

Regrets likewise for the inability to communicate more frequently due to distance and schedule constraints. One would think that you working in Katipunan and me working in Ortigas would mean time out for catch up every so often.

Scant good news -- please expect a Halo 3 messenger bag sometime after the 25th. It arrived in mint condition and my relatives are flying it over with them from New York. Perhaps it will magically appear on your desk at the English department.

From: [identity profile] izkariote.livejournal.com

YAY!

Oh, by the way~ my Tuesdays and Thursdays are "free", although the quotation marks need to be noted down since Tuesday is before my EXTREME WEDNESDAY SCHEDULE! and Thursdays fall after it. Still, let's work something out. I really, really want to see you.

From: [identity profile] aerien.livejournal.com

And he's the one who shares my birthday right?

~buries face in both hands and shakes his head~

From: [identity profile] aerien.livejournal.com

But I feel like I have some universal obligation to ....... ~suddenly remembers Pam has a Level 100 Paladin Mother and decides to stop thinking because he is only a Level 22 Warlock~

Curses! :3

Penelope? :O Your father made the right choice. Pam is totally you.

Cole and Prince are adorable!. In fact, I have a million pictures of Prince. :3
