The Lenten Season is a bad time to be Catholic and Filipino, because the practices get pretty crazy... I mean, down in the provinces, people still practice very medieval means of penance and celebration (read: self-crucifixion). What's cool, though, is that Holy Week is basically Vacation Week for working folk.
