American Media, FTW!

CONGRATULATE ME I'VE RE-DISCOVERED HOW TO DO THE FUNKY LINE THING.

*points above* SEE? :DDD

...Anyway. While [livejournal.com profile] themodestotter and I were spazzing about her possibly going to Japan later this year, I casually popped the idea of her swinging over to the Philippines instead, or during her trip. She's being sent to Japan as a part of some sort of Christian mission, and since the Philippines = the most Christian country in effing Asia, it's a possibility. It's either that or I try and fly out to Japan when she's there and pay her a visit, although that's difficult due to moneyz and personal circumstances.

Anyway, here's the best part of our convo:

Otter: Man, that sucks. Is it hard to get out of your country?
Me: Nah, not at all since I'm technically Canadian. *passports win at life* Just, I think I'll be starting my MA around June. That, and I have no money to pay for my own ticket. >_>
Otter: Really? I heard it was hard to get into [the Philippines]. At least, mom is convinced that it is. She keeps going on about how there is some sort of political turmoil and religious fighting between the Catholics and Muslims, and I am skeptical like I usually am about her "information." I keep telling her that I have a few friends that live there and I haven't heard a word about it, but she tells me that you guys aren't allowed to talk about it or something. I DUNNO.

...At that point, I lolled. Hard.

Srsly, fellow Pinoys, since when did our country become North Korea? XDD

I guess they're not kidding when they say that the US media really does try to build up this culture of fear and suspicion where they are. What's even funnier is that some people actually believe it.

[livejournal.com profile] themodestotter, I ♥ you.

Imma off to the doctor later today.

Don't worry, guys. It's not the annoying one.

Also, I'm being dragged back to the office. Apparently, my aunt is looking for me.

...I want a longer vacation. T_T

On a final note, Here's some more fic dumpage over at [livejournal.com profile] stitchedophelia. :o

2008 Writing Meme requests (2 Persona 3 pieces, one D.Grayman and one Code Geass) for [livejournal.com profile] sindapa.
Persona 3 fic dumpage.
Katekyo Hitman Reborn fic dumpage. One of them is porny, and another one is just gay.
FFT flash fiction.

With all of that, I think I've managed to bleed the fangirl out of my system. ...Sort of.

Oh! We still go to church every Sunday, we just don't have the, uh, bells and whistles. Like incense and funny robes and staffs and stuff. Our Senior Pastor, who is the guy that preaches, just goes up after we're done worshiping (We have a band with drums and guitar and bass and everything, it's pretty cool) and talks about a verse or two in the Bible like a teacher. He tells us about the history in it, and the culture involved, and wades through all of the poetry to tell us what really happened. He only dresses in slacks and a sweater or something casual-workplace. I think the only time we dress up nice is for Easter. Oh! And sometimes will have a drama-skit, or a cool video up on our projector-screens. We mostly just use those for showing the lyrics during songs.

And there's lots of community stuff to do too. There are groups that meet outside of church to talk more about the Bible and stuff, or a book on religion, or a movie. And there are youth groups that meet at the church for teens to visit and hang out at. It's a pretty awesome setup.

Hou~ sounds kinda like what the Catholic folks down here do regularly. There's a really big sense of community, at least where I live.

...Trouble is, my family kinda exists outside of the circle. We weren't in the neighborhood for a good 9-10 years, and my dad is a bit of hermit, so we all end up being hermits with him. XD He and my mom volunteer for reading during Mass though.

[identity profile] themodestotter.livejournal.com 2008-03-12 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, not so much around here. Again, it's because everyone is afraid of everyone. It's sad. 50 years ago, it wasn't like that!

Ahaha, I have it kind of easy. My father is the minister of music, which means ANYTHING that involves music, he arranged. So, everyone seems to feel obligated to know what's going on with his family, which includes me. People who I don't even know are always stopping me to talk. XD

Also, he's pretty much qualified to do anything the pastor can. He's been certified by the whatever-place that tests you to see if you have enough Bible knowledge/people skills to be a religious leader. It's also kind of bureaucratic, because religion and state are tied quite closely, more than a lot of people around here seem to think.

[identity profile] izkariote.livejournal.com 2008-03-12 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm. Yeah, very true. @ religion and state. Finding a balance between those two is the better way of doing it rather than try to rip them apart or live in denial.

...I should tell that to the people who are running my country. Lulz.

[identity profile] themodestotter.livejournal.com 2008-03-12 07:48 am (UTC)(link)
Well, our most basic of laws are based off of morals set in the Bible, so around here is pretty obvious. For example, if someone ran for President who wasn't Christian, there would be no way he would take office, no matter how blindingly qualified he is.

Lol. Politics, it's a sad, stupid business.

...At least we have our porn? XD
