Busy busy bumblebee~~~~

[Poll #1190933]

I was inspired to do this by [livejournal.com profile] lonelybusiness and [livejournal.com profile] kye_kestrel, and by the fact that I actually haven't uploaded music for a long time. If you guys have other suggestions that don't fit into the ticky-boxes up there, or if you have specific fanmix requests, just comment with them. :o

Didn't bother writing up an entry yesterday because I was busy fixing Alistair v2.0 up... I am happy to report that he is fully functional, and all my programs are up and running. Downloads are up to speed too. Subjected the PC to my usual Test of Time by leaving him on the whole night, and when I woke up to check his tempterature, the case was still as cool as ice. :D

After Alistair!PC was properly souped up, I broke my brain over fixed Aidan!Laptop up -- he's been in dire need of repartitioning, since Windows XP eats up a crapload of space and 10 GB just isn't enough for the main drive anymore. That kept me up pretty late the other night (had to transfer files, and there was some confusion with the partitioning program), BUT OTHERWISE, I AM TRIUMPHANT. Now I don't need to drag Maes!ExternalHD over to the office in order to do downloads there~

With both of those out of the way, I'll have to turn my attentions to Kaien!PC (formerly Alistair v1.0) and fix him up, as I had promised my Dad. That's not a problem at all, though: Ubuntu is SO much easier to fix than Windows, and my Dad doesn't want any specific program on the thing just yet.

Woke up late in the morning (TECHNOLOGY, THIS IS WHAT YOU DO TO ME), so I pretty much had to eat breakfast and hop right into the car in order to go to Medical City with my Mom -- the endocrinologist we were referred to is finally back in the country, so it's high time that we checked with her regarding The Thyroid Drama.

MANDATORY DORK SEGUE: Medical City is so. Effing. Shiny. I felt like I was in an episode of House M.D. because of all the prettiness. And fuck, there's a strip full of restaurants and shops nearby, and a frakking Starbucks inside the complex itself. The service is pretty great too, but maybe my Mom and I were lucky -- I've heard some horror stories from friends.

Compared to the first lady I went to, this doctor was really, really great: she listened to my story, checked my files, and coolly and calmly explained what the situation implied and what ought to be done. It's also clear that she knows her stuff, and doesn't hesitate to answer any of my questions WITHOUT laying on the "OH MAH GAWD YOU'VE MADE A TERRIBLE MISTAKE NOW YOU'RE GONNA DIE, BITCH!" act on me. Anyway, the lowdown is simple: it's highly, highly advisable that I proceed with all the radiation and removing the rest of my thyroid and all, in spite of the lifelong side effects. I'm still ambivalent towards it, but that may change soon.

Of course, provided that I DO push through with all that slicing and dicing and nuking, I will have to insist that it wait until semestral break. Short of me collapsing in the classroom or in my workplace, there is no effing way I'm going to sacrifice everything I've done so far just to have an operation/procedure that's already been grossly delayed. No point in hurrying up now, I think.

ANYWAY, the original game plan was to consult with the doctor and then skip on home, but since she required more than a few tests, Mom and I did the rounds with the labs: got poked by a needle (but I seriously didn't feel it at all; the nurse attending to me had damn light hands! That's the best injection I've had in my life! @_@) and had a chest x-ray. I'll have to go back on Thursday for the ultrasound on my throat, and then it's back to the doctor herself on Friday so that we can see the test results and figure out how to proceed.

SEGUE #2: One of those afternoon variety shows was playing on the telly while I was waiting for the blood test people. See, down here in the Philippines game shows and other "carnivalesque" gunk of that level is a BIG hit -- like, nearly everybody tunes into the stuff every single day. At the risk of sounding elitist, though, I have to say that I find that shit utterly tasteless. I'm serious. How can anybody stand going on camera and bouncing/dancing/making a complete fool out of one's self on national television just for the mere PROSPECT of going home with 100-200 pesos (international folks: that's barely five US dollars)? Seriously, it's horrid. I can say, with complete confidence, that stuff like that pretty much breeds a culture of stupidity.

Mom wanted to head to the malls in the Ortigas area to get her watches fixed (she's been waiting a long time to do it), and we also had to check on my Dad at the American Eye Center. The AEC personnel apparently suck, though, because Dad spent four hours there being shunted from doctor to doctor to procedure to doctor to procedure without actually getting a consultation. Suffice to say, he was pretty close to going postal. o_o Anyway, Mom and I ate lunch while we waited for him to finish up -- at least they didn't make him pay.

Dad left for Makati with one of the drivers, and Mom continued our mall-hopping for her watches. We also did some window shopping at the art galleries in Mega Mall, and she got me a pair of really effing comfortable slipper-sandal thingies that will likely last me for five years or more. *_* They're so niiice~~~

SEGUE #3: I did the geek thing and dropped by Cyberzone while I was in Mega. Data Blitz doesn't have the games I'm looking for, as usual; that's fine, though, because after purchasing a new PC, I am beyond broke. u_u Also, I checked the price for Microsoft Office 2007. WHY IS IT SO EXPENSIVE. ;A;

My Tita Alen invited us over to her apartment unit, so we dropped in to eat a bit and chat. Dad came back from his meeting in Makati, and I dropped Mom off so that she could accompany him in the mall (he had stuff to buy that he WOULD'VE bought earlier if he hadn't been forced to wait for four frigging hours at the AEC), and I went home ahead.

Hurr. Now that I think about it, today was pretty much my date with Mom. o_o We haven't really done that since February.

I've got an early morning appointment at the skin clinic to do the usual upper lip hair-zapping ritual -- Mom won't be with me this time, though, since she and Dad are heading over to Batangas tomorrow. I'll be going to the office afterward in order to make up for the day I missed.

[livejournal.com profile] yukitsu, THANK YOU FOR RENEWING MY PAID ACCOUNT, BUT NOW I HAVE FIVE EXTRA ICON SLOTS AND I DON'T REALLY KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THEM YET. D8 Or maybe I do, but that entails fixing my folders. Again.

This post was supposed to have my shot at the Text-based Paranoia Meme attached to it, but I think I've written enough for the night. Somebody remind me to continue uploading my backlogged drabbles to [livejournal.com profile] stitchedophelia and to my FF.net account tomorrow. @_@
