Odin Sphere + Random Stuff.
Today was a pretty slow day on campus -- I only had two classes, and one of them ended up being a sort of field trip down to this exhibit at Dela Costa. Now I'm very curious about Indonesia. @_@
That said, the highlight of the day will have to be finishing Odin Sphere, which I gunned from the moment I got home all the way until this point.
For the lack of anything better to say, the ending was fucking amazing. I was expecting more of a preparation period of sorts, but ended up getting tossed right into the action. See, Odin Sphere's gameplay stretches out over a series of "books", with each covering one of the five playable characters. The final book has six chapters marking the six final bosses that you have to take out, so yeah, it's pretty quick. There's also no time to prepare too, so if you walk in blind, you're royally screwed. o__o
Anyway, Odin Sphere apparently has more than one ending, but the walkthrough only specified how to get the "true" one, which I assume is the good one given the way things played out; I'll go back and figure out how to get the bad ones later on. Overall, this game's ending had some of the hardest boss fights I've gone through in my history as a gamer -- my characters were already overlevelled, and I STILL thought I'd kick the bucket at several points. It may have been due to the fact that I did not stock up nearly as many items as I should have, but still: most RPGs I've played don't require that much preparation in the final battle.
On a side note, I wasn't as surprised as I should've been by the final plot twists in the story, especially the one about Oswald. The lit geek in me spoiled the fun -- the moment I heard that Cornelius' father was named Edmund and that Oswald's father was named Edgar, everything clicked. So yeah. *coughs* Mercedes being the World Tree of the prophecies was also pretty obvious too, IMHO.
I have no real complaints about the way things played out -- Odin Sphere's ending is pretty happy insofar as Atlus games go (yes, Persona 3 fans, I'm talking to you), but it still has that feeling of "Hey, it could've been MUCH worse". One of my favorite characters died in the end, but I suppose it was justified given the fact that Odin Sphere has a very medieval/classic take on romance: she was the one person who couldn't end up with anyone, since her boy was the first boss that you had to kill. So basically, in the three main pairings of the game, one couple bites the dust. ._. Atlus, you suck.
To wrap it all up, about the only thing that would've made the game even more awesome for me is if it was a bit longer -- like, if there had been more time for you to play out your characters and witness their development between the end of their main stories and the beginning of the end. I guess that's what fanfiction's for though.
Now that I'm done with Odin Sphere, I can get back to Devil Summoner. I'm already halfway through, I think, but I'm starting to miss going OC with my demons and such.Besides, I need to gather material for that fic I owe
kye_kestrel.
Unless something goes terribly wrong between now and later,
yukitsu will be accompanying me as I buy my PSP tomorrow. <3333
...It's been a while since I've wrote a post that's about 98% fangirling and 2% RL stuff. @_@
